Thereareanumberoffactorsthatcancontributetounsatisfactoryqualityofcut,
someofwhichmaybeturfconditions.Theturfconditionssuchastheexcessive
thatch,sponginess,orattemptingtocutofftoomuchgrassheightmaynot
alwaysbeovercomebyadjustingthecuttingdeckormachine.Itisimportantto
rememberthatthelowertheheight-of-cut,themorecriticalthesefactorsare.
Rememberthattheeffectiveoractualheight-of-cutdependsonthecuttingunit
weight,tirepressures,hydrauliccounterbalancesettings,andturfconditions.

1.Maximumgovernedenginespeed
Checkthattheengineisrunningatthecorrecthigh-idle
speed;refertoChapter3:GasolineEngine(page3–1)or
Chapter4:DieselEngine(page4–1).
Alwaysmowathighenginespeed.
2.BladespeedAllthecuttingdeckbladesshouldrotateatthesamespeed.
3.Tirepressure
Checktheairpressureofallthetiresincludingcastortires.
AdjusttothepressuresspeciedintheOperator’sManual.
4.Bladecondition
Sharpenthebladesiftheircuttingedgesaredullornicked.
Inspectthebladesailforwearordamage.Replacetheblade
ifnecessary.
5.MowerhousingconditionEnsurethatthecuttingchamberisingoodcondition.
Keeptheundersideofthedeckclean.Theunwantedmaterial
buildupcanreducethecuttingperformance.
6.Height-of-cutEnsurethatallcuttingdeckheight-of-cutadjustmentsare
thesame.AdjustthedeckasspeciedintheCuttingUnit
Operator’sManual.Theeffective(actual)height-of-cutmay
bedifferentthanthebenchsetheight-of-cut.
7.CuttingdeckalignmentandgroundfollowingChecktheliftarmsforwear,damage,orbinding.Also,
inspectforbentordamagedpivotshafts.
8.Rollerandcastorwheelcondition
Allrollersandcasterwheelsshouldrotatefreely.Replacethe
bearingsiftheyarewornordamaged.
9.GrassconditionsMowwhenthegrassisdryforbestcuttingresults.Also,
removeonly2.5cm(1inch)or1/3ofthegrassbladewhen
cutting.
10.Machinetractionspeed
Mowingattoofastofatractionspeedwillresultinpoorafter
cutappearanceandmissedpatchesofgrass.
