engineishot,orwhenthemachineisinanenclosedarea.
•Alwaysllthefueltankoutsideandwipeupanyspilleddiesel
fuelbeforestartingtheengine.
•Storefuelinaclean,safety-approvedcontainerandkeepthecap
inplace.
•Usedieselfuelasanenginefuelonly,notforanyotherpurpose.
CheckingtheFuelLinesandConnections
Checkthefuellinesandconnectionsatthescheduledmaintenanceintervals
recommendedintheOperator'sManual.Checkthelinesfordeterioration,
damage,leaks,orlooseconnections.Replacethehoses,clamps,andttings
asnecessary.
DrainingandCleaningtheFuelTank
Drainandcleanthefueltankatthemaintenanceintervalsrecommendedinthe
Operator'sManual.Ifthefuelsystembecomesdirtyorifthemachineisstored
foranextendedperiod,drainandcleanthefueltank.
Tocleanthefueltank,ushthetankoutwithcleandieselfuel.Ensurethatthe
fueltankisfreeofcontaminationanddebris.
PrimingtheFuelSystem
Thefuelsystemneedstobeprimedbeforestartingtheengineforthersttime,
afterrunningoutoffuel,orafterfuelsystemmaintenance(e.g.,drainingthe
fuel/waterseparator,replacingthefuellterorafuelhose).T oprimethefuel
system,ensurethatthefueltankhasfuelinit.Then,turnthekeyswitchtothe
RUNpositionfor10to15seconds,whichallowsthefuelpumptoprimethefuel
system.DonotturnthekeyswitchtotheSTARTpositiontoprimethefuelsystem.
RemovingtheFuelTank
1.Parkthemachineonalevelsurface,lowerthecuttingdeck(orimplement),
shutofftheengine,settheparkingbrake,andremovethekeyfromthe
keyswitch.
2.Unlatchthehoodandraiseit.
3.Removethenegativebatterycablefromthenegativepostofthebattery.
4.Allowtheenginetocompletelycool.
5.Unplugtheseatswitchfromthemachinewireharness.
6.Removetheseatandseatsuspensionfromthemachine;refertoOperator
Seat(page7–19).
7.Removetheseatplate(item5inFigure26)fromthemachine.
8.Removethe4thumbscrews(item2inFigure26)thatsecurethecontrol
paneltothefueltank.Unplugthewireharnessconnectionsfromthepanel
components,andremovethepanelfromthemachine.
