The Traxxas Slash (Model 58024) is a 1/10 scale Short-Course Race Truck designed for intense off-road R/C action. It features a rear-wheel drive design with 4-wheel independent suspension, tuned to replicate the driving and handling of full-scale short-course trucks. The model is equipped with a Traxxas TQ 2.4GHz radio system and an XL-5 electronic speed control.
Function Description:
The Traxxas Slash is a remote-controlled truck designed for recreational and competitive off-road driving. It allows users to experience high-speed, fender-to-fender racing, power slides, and big-air jumps. The TQ 2.4GHz radio system provides reliable control, automatically locating and locking onto an available frequency to prevent conflicts. The XL-5 electronic speed control offers precise, digital proportional throttle control and includes built-in Low-Voltage Detection for LiPo batteries and thermal shutdown protection.

Usage Features:
- Quick Start Guide: The manual includes a Quick Start path for rapid setup and operation.
- Water-Resistant Electronics: The model is designed with water-resistant features for the receiver, servos, and ESC, allowing operation in wet conditions like puddles, wet grass, and snow. However, it is not fully waterproof, and additional maintenance is required after wet use. The TQ 2.4GHz transmitter is not water resistant.
- Adjustable Slipper Clutch: Built into the spur gear, the slipper clutch regulates power to the rear wheels to prevent tire spin. It can be adjusted using a 4-way wrench.
- Gearing Options: The model comes with stock gearing for good overall acceleration and top speed. Optional high-speed gearing (more teeth) is available for increased top speed on hard surfaces. Smaller pinion gears can be used for more acceleration and less top speed, especially for off-road or repetitive starting/stopping.
- Adjustable Suspension:
- Toe-in: Adjustable via turnbuckles for increased stability (1°-2° toe-in recommended for front wheels).
- Camber: Adjustable via camber rods (upper turnbuckles). Stock camber is -1° for front wheels and -1.5° for rear wheels.
- Shock Mounting Positions: Multiple positions on suspension arms allow adjustment for different terrains (softer for big bumps, firmer for prepared tracks/on-road).
- Ride Height: Adjustable using clip-on, spring preload spacers.
- XL-5 Profile Selection: The ESC offers three driving profiles:
- Profile #1 (Sport Mode): 100% Forward, 100% Brakes, 100% Reverse (default).
- Profile #2 (Race Mode): 100% Forward, 100% Brakes, No Reverse.
- Profile #3 (Training Mode): 50% Forward, 100% Brakes, 50% Reverse (reduces power output for beginning drivers).
- Fail-Safe Function: The radio system includes a built-in fail-safe that returns the throttle to its last saved neutral position in case of signal loss.
- Battery Hold-Down: Accommodates both side-by-side racing style packs and common stick packs (25mm for stick packs, 23mm for side-by-side packs).
- Traxxas High-Current Connector: Gold-plated terminals ensure positive current flow with minimal resistance.
Maintenance Features:
- Regular Inspection: Users should regularly inspect for cracked/damaged parts, binding wheels/steering, shock absorber operation, frayed wires, loose connections, and mounting of electronics.
- Slipper Clutch Pads: Friction material should be replaced if thickness is 1.8mm or less.
- Motor Maintenance: Every 10-15 runs, the Titan 12T motor should be removed, cleaned with aerosol motor cleaner, and its bushings re-oiled with lightweight electric motor oil.
- Shock Maintenance: Keep oil levels full with 100% pure silicone shock oil. Inspect bladder for damage/distortion. Rebuild kit (part #2362) available for leaks.
- Suspension Maintenance: Periodically inspect for bent/dirty suspension pins, bent turnbuckles, loose screws, and signs of stress/bending. Replace components as needed.
- Driveline Maintenance: Inspect for worn drive yokes, dirty axle half shafts, unusual noise, or binding. Check spur gear wear and pinion gear tightness.
- Chassis Cleaning: Keep the chassis clean of accumulated dirt and grime.
- Steering System: Over time, components like the servo saver (part #3744) and bellcrank bushings (part #2545) may wear out and need replacement.
- Receiver Box: The watertight receiver box design allows for removal and installation of the receiver while maintaining the seal. After wet running, the cover should be removed during storage to allow air drying and prevent long-term issues with electronics.
- Battery Storage: Always disconnect and remove batteries from the model and transmitter when stored for extended periods.
- NiMH Battery Recycling: Traxxas encourages recycling Power Cell NiMH batteries at the end of their useful life.
