Overview

The Triton Mini Exposed Sequential Thermostatic Mixer Shower (model 86005760) is a compact and efficient showering solution designed for various domestic water systems. It offers precise temperature control and incorporates several safety features to ensure user comfort and prevent scalding.

Function Description:

This mixer shower blends hot and cold water supplies to deliver a consistent, thermostatically controlled showering temperature. The "sequential" aspect refers to its operation: a single control knob manages both the on/off function and temperature adjustment. Turning the knob anti-clockwise initiates water flow and increases the temperature, while turning it clockwise decreases the temperature and eventually turns the shower off. This design simplifies operation and provides a smooth transition from cold to hot water. The thermostatic mixing valve (TMV) is a key component, ensuring that the mixed water temperature remains stable even if there are fluctuations in the incoming hot or cold water supply pressures or temperatures. It also features anti-scald protection, which automatically reduces or stops the flow if the cold water supply fails, preventing dangerously hot water from being delivered.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Maximum Static Pressure: 10 Bar. It's crucial not to exceed this to ensure effective operation of internal seals.
  • Flow Pressure (Hot & Cold): 0.5 to 5 Bar. For optimal performance, a minimum flow of 8 litres per minute should be available to both inlets.
  • Hot Supply Temperature: 55 to 65°C.
  • Cold Supply Temperature: Equal to or less than 25°C.
  • Minimum Flow Rate (for best performance): 8 litres per minute to both inlets.
  • Maximum Mixed Water Outlet Temperature: Factory set to 38°C, adjustable during installation. The mixed water temperature must never exceed 46°C at the terminal fitting. Recommendations for various applications include 41°C for showers and washbasins, and 38°C for bidets. The British Burns Association recommends 37° to 37.5°C as a comfortable bathing temperature for children. For premises covered by the Care Standards Act 2000, the maximum mixed water outlet temperature is 43°C.
  • Inlet Pipework Centres: 150mm.
  • Outlet Connection: G1/2, suitable for a 15mm rigid pipe connection.
  • Approvals: WRAS (Water Regulations Advisory Scheme).
  • Dimensions: Approximately 135mm (width of valve body), 60mm (diameter of main body), 200mm (overall width including inlets), 102mm (overall height).

Usage Features:

  • Sequential Control: A single knob for on/off and temperature adjustment, providing intuitive operation.
  • Anti-Scald Protection: Automatically shuts down or significantly reduces flow if the cold water supply fails, preventing scalding.
  • Temperature Stop: A preset maximum temperature stop (factory set to 38°C) prevents accidental rotation to higher, potentially unsafe temperatures. This stop is adjustable during installation to suit user preferences and safety requirements.
  • Handle Variations: The product offers different handle styles, allowing for aesthetic customization.
  • Flexible Installation: Can be installed in solid walls, stud partition walls, dry-lined walls, or fixed to a shower cubicle/panel.
  • Accessory Positioning: The shower head, riser rail, and/or fixed shower head can be positioned above or to either side of the mixer shower.
  • Flow Regulation (Optional): A flow regulator (not supplied) can be fitted for high-pressure water systems to reduce flow rate and assist economy.

Maintenance Features:

  • Filter Cleaning: Filters should be checked for debris and cleaned every three months (recommended for commercial/health care premises, optional for domestic). Access to filters involves removing the unit from inlet fittings, then removing hot/cold elbows, retaining clips, and non-return valves (NRVs).
  • Thermal Shut-Off Test: Recommended every three months (mandatory for commercial installations) to verify the anti-scald function. This involves shutting off the cold supply and ensuring the flow stops or reduces to a trickle with a temperature below 43°C.
  • Descaling: If the mixer body requires descaling, it should be removed from the pipework, and all rubber parts must be removed before descaling.
  • Non-Return Valves (NRVs): Designed for long life with no maintenance, these prevent cross-flow between hot and cold supplies under unequal pressure conditions. Their function should be checked if temperature variations occur.
  • Cleaning: It is recommended to clean all products using warm, soapy water. Abrasive or aggressive chemical cleaning products should be avoided as they can damage the surface finish and invalidate the guarantee.
  • Serviceability: The valve is designed to be installed in a position that allows for easy access for future maintenance and commissioning.
  • Spare Parts Availability: Triton retains functional spares for its products, and spare parts can be ordered via their online store or by telephone.

The Triton Mini Exposed Sequential Thermostatic Mixer Shower is a reliable and safe choice for a variety of domestic installations, offering ease of use and straightforward maintenance.
