Overview

The Triton T100XR electric shower is a domestic appliance designed to provide instant hot water for showering. It operates by heating mains cold water as it flows through the unit, eliminating the need for a separate hot water tank. This manual provides comprehensive instructions for its installation, operation, and maintenance, ensuring safe and efficient use.

Function Description

The core function of the Triton T100XR is to deliver a continuous supply of heated water for showering. It achieves this through electric heating elements that activate when the shower is turned on. The water temperature is regulated by controlling the flow rate of water through these elements; a slower flow results in hotter water, while a faster flow produces cooler water. The shower is designed for permanent connection to the mains water supply and the fixed wiring of the electrical system, ensuring a stable and reliable operation.

Key operational features include:

  • Instant Heating: Water is heated on demand, meaning there's no waiting for a tank to fill or heat up.
  • Temperature Control: Users can adjust the water temperature to their preference using a dedicated control knob. This control primarily alters the flow rate through the heating elements.
  • Power Settings: The shower offers different power settings, typically "High" and "Economy." The "High" setting provides the maximum achievable flow for a desired temperature, suitable for year-round use. The "Economy" setting uses less energy, particularly beneficial during warmer months when ambient mains water temperature is higher.
  • Cold Water Only Setting: A specific setting allows for cold water flow only, where the temperature control knob then adjusts the flow rate rather than the temperature.
  • Stabiliser Valve: This internal component minimises variations in shower temperature that might occur due to fluctuations in mains water pressure. If pressure drops significantly below the minimum required, the heating elements will automatically cut out to prevent overheating.
  • Phased Shutdown: When the shower is turned off, power to the heating elements is immediately cut, but water continues to flow for a few seconds. This flushes out any remaining hot water, preventing a "slug" of hot water for the next user.
  • Low Pressure Indication: The unit is equipped with an indicator that illuminates if the water pressure falls below the minimum required for correct operation. In such cases, power to the heating elements is switched off, and the shower operates on the "Cold" setting until adequate pressure is restored.
  • Safety Cut-out: An over-temperature safety device is integrated into the unit. In the event of abnormal operation leading to unsafe internal temperatures, this device will disconnect the heating elements.

Usage Features

The Triton T100XR is designed for user-friendly operation with clear controls and indicators.

  • Start/Stop Button: A single button initiates and terminates the shower flow. When the electricity supply is on, a "Power" indicator light will illuminate. Pressing the Start/Stop button will begin water flow, defaulting to the "High" setting. Pressing it again will initiate the phased shutdown.
  • High/Economy Button: This button allows users to toggle between the "High" and "Economy" power settings. An indicator light next to the button shows which mode is active. On the "High" setting, both indicators next to the button are lit, while on "Economy," only the lower indicator is lit.
  • Temperature Control Knob: This rotary knob is used to fine-tune the water temperature. Turning it anti-clockwise increases water flow and makes the water colder, while turning it clockwise decreases flow and makes the water hotter. Users are advised to test the water temperature with their hand before stepping under the shower.
  • Cold Water Button: A separate button, indicated by a blue symbol, allows for cold water flow. In this mode, the temperature control knob adjusts the flow rate of the cold water.
  • Commissioning Procedure: Upon initial installation, a specific commissioning procedure is vital. This involves flushing the unit with water (without the shower head attached) to remove debris and ensure the heater unit is full of water before the elements are switched on. Failure to follow this can damage the unit and invalidate the guarantee.
  • Isolating Switch: For safety, the shower unit must be switched off at the dedicated double-pole isolating switch when not in use. This is a standard safety recommendation for all electrical appliances.
  • Shower Head and Hose: The shower head and hose supplied are safety-critical components. Using genuine Triton parts is crucial to prevent injury and maintain the product's guarantee. The shower head should not be restricted by placing it in direct contact with the body.
  • Water Pressure Considerations: The shower requires a minimum running pressure for full performance. If the stated flow rates cannot be met due to low water pressure, operating the unit on the "Economy" setting during warmer months may be necessary.

Maintenance Features

Regular maintenance is essential to ensure the longevity and optimal performance of the Triton T100XR.

  • Shower Head Descaling: The shower head must be descaled regularly to remove limescale and debris. Blockages in the spray plate can restrict water flow, leading to higher water temperatures and potentially causing the Pressure Relief Device (PRD) to operate.
  • Filter Cleaning: The inlet filter, located within the inlet pipe, should be periodically cleaned by a competent person. This involves switching off electricity and water supplies, removing the trimplate, unscrewing the retaining nut, and cleaning the filter (e.g., with an old toothbrush). Sharp objects should not be used to avoid damage.
  • Pressure Relief Device (PRD): The unit incorporates a PRD as a safety mechanism to protect against excessive pressure build-up. If the PRD operates (water ejects from the bottom of the unit), it indicates a blockage (e.g., damaged hose, blocked shower head). The cause must be identified and rectified, and a new PRD fitted, followed by the commissioning procedure.
  • General Cleaning: It is recommended to clean all product surfaces with warm, soapy water. Abrasive or aggressive chemical cleaning products should be avoided as they can damage the surface finish and invalidate the guarantee.
  • Electrical Checks: As with all electrical appliances, it is recommended to have the shower and its installation checked by a competent electrician at least every two years to ensure there is no deterioration due to age and usage.
  • Professional Servicing: In the event of a fault, particularly if the safety cut-out has operated, a qualified engineer is required to identify the fault and replace any necessary safety devices. Electrical maintenance and repairs should always be carried out by a suitably qualified person.
  • Spare Parts: Genuine Triton spare parts are available for purchase directly from the manufacturer's website or by contacting their Customer Experience team. Using non-genuine parts may invalidate the guarantee and compromise safety.
  • Product Registration: Product registration is available for units purchased and installed in the UK, which is important for guarantee purposes.
