Overview

This document describes the Triton T60X electric shower, a household appliance designed to provide instant hot water for showering.

Function Description

The Triton T60X is an electric shower that heats mains water on demand as it passes through the unit, eliminating the need for a separate hot water tank. It features a power selector for different heating levels and a temperature control to adjust the water flow rate, thereby regulating the water temperature. The shower is equipped with safety features such as a thermal cut-out and a pressure relief device (PRD) to prevent overheating and excessive pressure build-up. It is designed for permanent connection to the water mains and fixed electrical wiring.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Electrical:
    • Nominal Power Rating (at 240V): 8.5kW (40A MCB rating), 9.5kW (40A MCB rating), 10.5kW (45A MCB rating).
    • Nominal Power Rating (at 230V): 7.9kW (40A MCB rating), 8.7kW (40A MCB rating), 9.6kW (40A MCB rating).
    • Earthing: MUST be earthed.
    • Circuit Protection: Requires a suitably rated Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) or cartridge fuse (e.g., 40A for 8.5kW/9.0kW, 45A for 9.5kW/10.5kW).
    • Residual Current Device (RCD): A 30mA RCD MUST be installed in all UK electric and pumped shower circuits.
    • Isolating Switch: A 45 amp double pole isolating switch with a minimum contact gap of 3mm in both poles must be incorporated in the circuit. It must be accessible, clearly identifiable, and out of reach of a person using a fixed bath or shower (except for cord-operated switches).
    • Cable Size: Strongly recommended to use a minimum of 10mm² cabling throughout the shower installation, especially if cabling is bunched, surrounded by insulation, or in areas above 30°C. Individual site conditions should be assessed by a competent electrician.
    • Connection: Intended to be permanently connected to the fixed wiring of the electrical mains system. Not to be connected to a ring main, spur, socket outlet, lighting circuit, or cooker circuit.
  • Water:
    • Inlet Connection: 15mm diameter.
    • Outlet Connection: 1/2" BSP male thread.
    • Minimum Running Pressure: 100kPa (1.0 bar) at 8 litres/minute for 8.5kW and 9.5kW models; 150kPa (1.5 bar) at 11 litres/minute for 10.5kW models.
    • Maximum Static Pressure: 1000kPa (10 bar).
    • Supply: Mains water pressure only. Not to be connected to inlet water obtained from any other water heating system.
    • Fittings: Compression fittings MUST be used for inlet connection. DO NOT use jointing compounds or push-fit connectors.
    • Stopvalve: An additional double pole isolation switch (complying with Water Regulations) MUST be fitted in the mains water supply for maintenance.
  • Materials:
    • Backplate, Cover, Controls, Shower Head: ABS.
    • Sprayplate: Acetal.
    • Elements: Minerally insulated corrosion resistant metal sheathing.
  • Dimensions:
    • Height: 230mm.
    • Width: 217mm.
    • Depth: 103mm.
  • Standards and Approvals:
    • Splashproof Rating: IPX4.
    • Complies with current British and European safety standards for household and similar electrical appliances.
    • Complies with requirements of the British Electrotechnical Approvals Board (BEAB).
    • Meets with Compliance with European Community Directives (CE) and UK Community Directives (UKCA).

Usage Features

  • Temperature Control: The START/STOP temperature control regulates water flow. Turning anti-clockwise increases temperature (by reducing flow), while turning clockwise decreases temperature (by increasing flow). Turning fully clockwise to the STOP position stops water flow.
  • Power Selector: Offers two positions:
    • ECONOMY (single red symbol): For using less power during warmer months when ambient water temperature is higher. May be necessary if low water pressure limits flow rate.
    • HIGH (double red symbol): Provides the highest flow achievable for the preferred temperature, considered normal for optimum shower performance throughout the year.
  • Temperature Stability: A stabiliser valve minimises variations in shower temperature during mains water pressure changes.
  • Safety Cut-out:
    • Low Water Pressure Cut-out: Automatically switches off power to heating elements if water pressure falls below minimum, preventing temperature rises. Power is restored when pressure returns.
    • Temperature Limiter: Reduces power to elements if an overheat temperature is sensed, allowing water to continue flowing. Power is restored when the temperature cools.
    • Thermal Cut-out: A safety device that disconnects power to heating elements in case of abnormal operation causing unsafe temperatures. Requires a qualified engineer to reset/replace.
  • User Advice:
    • Water temperature varies with mains water supply temperature (cooler in winter, warmer in summer).
    • Always test water temperature with your hand before stepping under the shower.
    • A time delay exists between selecting a flow rate and reaching a stable temperature.
    • DO NOT place items like soap or shampoo bottles on top of the unit to prevent liquid seepage and damage.

Maintenance Features

  • Shower Head Descaling: The shower head must be cleaned regularly with descalent to remove scale and debris. Blockages can restrict flow, leading to higher temperatures and potential PRD operation.
  • PRD (Pressure Relief Device): Designed to protect the appliance from excessive pressure build-up. If it operates (water ejects from the bottom of the unit), the cause (e.g., blocked shower head, kinked hose) must be identified and rectified before fitting a new PRD and recommissioning.
  • Electrical Checks: It is recommended to have the shower and installation checked at least every two years by a competent electrician to ensure no deterioration due to age and usage.
  • Commissioning Procedure: Before normal operation, a specific commissioning procedure must be followed to flush out debris and ensure the heater unit contains water before elements are switched on. This involves removing the shower head, rotating the temperature control to minimum flow (10), turning on water supply, then slowly rotating to maximum flow (1) to purge air, and finally rotating between 1 and 10 several times.
  • Cleaning: Cleaning and user maintenance shall not be made by children.
  • Service Policy: In case of product fault, contact Customer Experience. Do not remove the product. Triton engineers will attend if required. Proof of purchase is needed for in-guarantee calls. Charges apply for non-product related faults or missed appointments.
  • Spare Parts: Functional spares are retained for as long as there is a market. Parts can be ordered online or by phone.
  • WEEE Directive Compliance: Triton Showers is committed to environmental protection and complies with the WEEE directive. Products are labelled with the crossed-out wheeled bin symbol, indicating they should be taken to recognised collection points for disposal.
