Overview

This document serves as the installation and operating manual for the Triton T70Z electric shower.

Function Description

The Triton T70Z is an electric shower designed to provide instant hot water for showering. It operates by heating mains cold water as it passes through the unit, eliminating the need for a separate hot water supply. The shower features a power selector with three settings: COLD, ECONOMY, and HIGH, allowing users to choose the desired heating level. A temperature control knob further adjusts the water temperature by regulating the flow rate through the heater. The unit is equipped with safety features such as Temperature Protection (TP) and an Abnormal Safety cut-out to prevent overheating, and a two-stage pressure switch to manage operation under varying water pressure conditions.

Important Technical Specifications

Electrical:

  • Nominal power rating at 240V: 7.5kW (32A MCB rating) and 8.5kW (40A MCB rating).
  • Nominal power rating at 230V: 6.9kW (32A MCB rating) and 7.8kW (40A MCB rating).
  • Splashproof rating: IPX4.
  • Supply: 230-240V ac supply, permanently connected to the fixed wiring of the electrical mains system.
  • Earthing: MUST be earthed.
  • Circuit Protection: Requires a suitably rated Miniature Circuit Breaker (MCB) or cartridge fuse (e.g., 7.5kW requires 32A MCB/35A cartridge fuse; 8.5kW requires 40A MCB/45A cartridge fuse).
  • RCD: A 30mA residual current device (RCD) MUST be installed in all UK electric and pumped shower circuits.
  • Isolation Switch: A 45 amp double pole isolating switch with a minimum contact gap of 3mm in both poles must be incorporated in the circuit, accessible but out of reach of a person using a fixed bath or shower.
  • Cable Size: Recommended minimum of 10mm² cabling throughout the shower installation, with specific guidance provided for determining cable size based on installation conditions (e.g., insulated walls, conduit, ambient temperature).

Water:

  • Supply Source: Mains pressure cold water only.
  • Minimum inlet pressure: 100kPa (1 bar) for 7.5kW - 8.5kW, with a minimum flow of 8 litres per minute. For 10.5kW, minimum inlet pressure is 150kPa (1.5 bar).
  • Maximum static pressure: 1000 kPa (10 bar).
  • Maximum inlet temperature: 28°C.
  • Minimum inlet temperature: 2°C.
  • Inlet connection: 15mm diameter.
  • Outlet connection: ½" BSP male thread.
  • Pressure Relief Device (PRD): Integrated safety device to protect against excessive pressure build-up.
  • Backflow Prevention: If the shower head can be placed within a bath, basin, or shower tray, a double check valve or similar MUST be fitted in the supply pipework to prevent back-flow.

Materials:

  • Backplate, cover, controls, shower head: ABS.
  • Sprayplate: Acetal.
  • Elements: Minerally insulated corrosion resistant metal sheathing.

Dimensions:

  • Height: 300mm.
  • Width: 220mm.
  • Depth: 100mm.

Usage Features

  • Power Selector: A rotary knob with three ON positions (COLD, ECONOMY, HIGH) and an OFF position.
    • COLD: Provides cold water only; temperature control adjusts flow force.
    • ECONOMY: Energy-saving setting for warmer months or when ambient mains water temperature is high.
    • HIGH: Provides maximum flow and heating for optimal performance throughout the year.
  • Temperature Control: A rotary knob to adjust water temperature by increasing or decreasing the flow rate. Turning anti-clockwise increases flow and decreases temperature; turning clockwise decreases flow and increases temperature.
  • Stabiliser Valve: Minimises temperature variations during mains water pressure changes.
  • Safety Procedures:
    • Always switch off the unit at the isolating switch when not in use.
    • DO NOT operate if frozen, damaged, or if water ceases to flow.
    • DO NOT restrict flow from the shower head.
    • Be aware of a slug of hot water when restarting immediately after stopping.
    • The shower head and hose supplied are safety critical parts; use of non-genuine parts may cause injury and invalidate the guarantee.

Maintenance Features

  • Filter Cleaning: The inlet filter should be periodically cleaned to maintain performance. This involves removing the cover, unscrewing the assembly from the bottom of the inlet pipe, and cleaning the filter with a soft brush (e.g., old toothbrush). DO NOT overtighten when refitting.
  • Shower Head Descaling: The shower head must be descaled regularly to prevent scale and debris build-up, which can restrict flow and cause higher temperatures or PRD operation.
  • Electrical Checks: Recommended to have the shower and installation checked at least every two years by a competent electrician to ensure no deterioration due to age and usage.
  • PRD Operation: If the PRD operates (water ejects from the bottom of the unit), turn off electricity and water supplies, then contact Customer Experience for advice on replacement. The cause of operation (e.g., blocked shower head/hose, incorrect commissioning) must be identified and rectified before fitting a new PRD.
  • Warranty: 2-year guarantee against manufacturing defects for domestic use (excluding accessories, which have a 1-year parts-only guarantee). The guarantee is invalidated by improper installation, misuse, damage, or unauthorized repairs.
