Overview

This document is a user manual for the Trotec TDS 20 R, TDS 30 R, and TDS 50 R electric heaters. It provides comprehensive information on safety, operation, maintenance, and technical specifications for these devices.

Function Description

The Trotec TDS R series electric heaters are designed to generate and distribute warm air in closed rooms. They operate by heating air with an internal heating element, and then a fan blows this heated air into the room. These devices are equipped with an integrated thermostat, which allows them to maintain a constant flow of warm air. The TDS 30 R and TDS 50 R models also feature a time-delay thermostat that regulates the device's rundown operation. It is also possible to operate the fan without the heating function.

The intended use of these heaters includes warming air in various indoor settings such as:

  • Construction trailers
  • Greenhouses
  • Boathouses
  • Garages
  • Market stalls
  • Workshops
  • Gastronomy sector
  • Warehouses and halls
  • Shipyards

Foreseeable misuse includes placing objects like clothing on the device, using it near fuel, solvents, varnishes, or other easily inflammable vapours, or in rooms where these substances are stored. The device must not be used near swimming pools, outdoors, or for heating in vehicles.

Usage Features

The devices are designed for ease of use with clear controls:

  • Transport handle (1): For easy portability.
  • Selection switch ventilation and heating levels (2): Allows users to choose between ventilation only, heating level 1, or heating level 2. The '0' position switches the device off.
  • Rotary switch temperature (3): A stepless rotary switch for setting the desired room temperature. The room thermostat automatically controls the temperature. For TDS 20 R, both heating and ventilation switch off when the set value is exceeded. For TDS 30 R/TDS 50 R, heating switches off while the fan continues to run when the set value is exceeded, and heating switches back on once the heater has cooled sufficiently.
  • Air outlet (4) and Air inlet (5): Clearly marked for proper air circulation.

Start-up:

  1. Unpack the device and fully unwind the power cable.
  2. Insert the mains plug into a properly fused mains socket, ensuring the power cable is guided along the back of the device.
  3. Set the selection switch to the desired heating level.
  4. Set the desired temperature using the rotary switch.

Shutdown:

  1. Turn the selection switch to ventilation.
  2. Keep the fan running for 3 minutes to cool the device.
  3. Switch off the device by setting the selector switch to the '0' position.
  4. Disconnect the power cable from the mains socket by holding the mains plug.
  5. Allow the device to cool down completely before cleaning or storage.

Safety Features:

  • Overheating protection: A safety thermostat automatically switches off the device if it overheats. Users are advised to allow the device to cool down and investigate the cause of overheating if this occurs.
  • Warning symbols: The manual uses various symbols to highlight electrical voltage warnings, hot surface warnings, general warnings, cautions, notes, and information, ensuring users are aware of potential hazards and important instructions.
  • Minimum distances: Specific minimum distances from walls and other objects (50 cm for top, rear, sides, and front) must be observed to ensure proper air circulation and prevent overheating.

Maintenance Features

The manual outlines a clear maintenance schedule to ensure safe and functional operation:

Maintenance and Care Interval:

  • Before every start-up: Check air inlets and outlets for dirt and foreign objects and clean if necessary.
  • As needed: Clean the exterior, visually check the inside of the device for dirt, check for damage, check attachment screws, and perform a test run.
  • At least every 2 weeks: Check air inlet grid(s) for dirt and foreign objects and clean if necessary.
  • At least every 4 weeks: Clean the exterior.
  • At least every 6 months: Visually check the inside of the device for dirt.
  • Annually: Check for damage, check attachment screws, and perform a test run.

Cleaning the Housing:

  • The housing should be cleaned with a soft, damp, and lint-free cloth.
  • It is crucial to ensure no moisture enters the housing and to protect electrical components from moisture.
  • Aggressive cleaning agents, sprays, solvents, alcohol-based, or abrasive cleaners should not be used.
  • The housing must be wiped dry after cleaning.

Important Maintenance Notes:

  • Before any maintenance, care, or repair work, the device must be switched off, and the mains plug disconnected from the mains socket.
  • Do not touch the mains plug with wet or damp hands.
  • Allow the device to cool down completely before transport or maintenance.
  • Tasks requiring the housing to be opened must only be carried out by authorised specialist companies or by Trotec.
  • Only original spare parts should be used.
  • A maintenance and care log is provided to record maintenance activities.

Troubleshooting: The manual includes a section for common errors and faults, such as the device not starting, heating not working, or the fan not running, along with steps to diagnose and resolve these issues. It emphasizes contacting customer service or an authorised specialist electrical company if problems persist.
