Overview

The device is a TruXedo® Edge tonneau cover, designed for pickup trucks. It functions as a protective cover for the truck bed, offering security for cargo and improving aerodynamics.

Function Description:

The TruXedo® Edge tonneau cover is a roll-up style cover that mounts on top of the truck bed rails. It features a tension control system that allows the user to adjust the fabric tautness, ensuring a snug fit and protecting against wind wear. The cover is secured by a latching mechanism at the tailgate end and hook-and-loop fasteners along the side rails. When not needed, the cover can be rolled up towards the cab and secured with safety straps, leaving the truck bed fully open for hauling larger items. The design incorporates an aluminum header, both front and rear, and aluminum bows that support the vinyl cover. A header seal and side rail seals help to minimize water and debris intrusion into the truck bed. The cover is designed to be secured when the tailgate is closed, especially if the tailgate has a key lock, providing an additional layer of security for the truck bed contents.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Material: Vinyl cover, aluminum headers (front and rear), aluminum bows.
  • Fasteners: Square head cap screws (3/8"), lock nuts (3/8"), cotter pins (3/64" x 19/32"), rivets (1/8" Dia. x 1/4" Long and 1/8" x 3/16"), hex lock nuts (3/8"-16), square head cap screws (3/8" x 1 1/2").
  • Seals: TruxSeal (3.5 long), header seal (notched).
  • Components: Tension control screw and bracket, latch assembly, flat spring (5/8" x 3 7/8"), header stop, header safety clip, header safety strap, front and rear header end plugs, side rails (passenger's and driver's side), clamp assemblies.
  • Warranty: Five-year limited warranty covering defects in material and workmanship for new, unused products, effective if properly installed and used for the intended purpose. The warranty applies to the original buyer only and does not cover labor, damages to person/product/property, used/repaired/altered/modified products, or those subjected to misuse, negligence, accident, or ordinary wear and tear. The warranty is void if genuine TruXedo parts are not utilized.

Usage Features:

  • Easy Installation: The installation process involves placing side rails on the truck box, securing them with clamps, setting the cover assembly across the cab end, and then tightening bolts. Tools required include a ratchet with a 9/16" socket or wrench.
  • Roll-Up Design: Allows for full access to the truck bed when the cover is rolled open and secured with safety straps.
  • Tension Control: Manual adjustment of cover tension is possible via tension control screws, ensuring a tight fit and preventing flapping in the wind. This adjustment should be done seasonally and after extreme temperature changes, ideally during the warmest part of the day.
  • Security: The cover latches at the tailgate, and when combined with a locking tailgate, provides a secure storage area. Hook-and-loop fasteners along the side rails prevent wind from lifting the cover.
  • Weather Protection: The vinyl cover, along with header and side rail seals, helps to protect cargo from elements, though it is noted that the cover is not airtight.
  • Safety Straps: Essential for securing the cover when rolled open, especially when towing the vehicle backward.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The vinyl cover can be hand washed with mild soap and water or cleaned in a car wash. Thorough rinsing is recommended to remove soap residue.
  • Protectant Use: The cover can be treated with any vinyl protectant specifically made for tonneau covers.
  • Avoidance of Harmful Products: Users are explicitly warned against using silicon, petroleum, or citrus-based products on the tonneau cover, as these can damage the material.
  • Regular Inspection: Owners are responsible for regularly inspecting the cover for wear or damage and having parts repaired or replaced as needed.
  • Tension Adjustment: Periodic adjustment of the cover tension is crucial for optimal performance and to protect against wind wear.

Safety Instructions:

  • Do not place objects on or against the cover or framework.
  • Do not tie cargo to the TruXedo framework.
  • Never allow children or pets to occupy the pickup box while the cover is closed.
  • The cover is not airtight; special care is required to keep cargo clean and dry.
  • The fabric cover will not prevent theft of contents inside the truck box.
  • The cover must be rolled fully open and secured with safety straps when towing the vehicle backward.
  • Always wear safety glasses and/or other necessary protective equipment during installation.
