CHAPTER 4
Maintenance and
Troubleshooting
The chapter contains maintenance and troubleshooting solutions
for the A
EROTRAK™ Remote Airborne Particle Counters.
Maintenance
Cleaning the Optical Surfaces of the Laser
Bench
There are two optical surfaces on the laser bench for the
A
EROTRAK™ particle counter that may require cleaning. The two
surfaces are the external mirror and the AR-coated window. If the
Service LED is illuminated, the laser bench will require cleaning.
The external mirror and AR-coated window help define the laser
cavity. The cleanliness of the optics has a direct effect on the
power of the cavity. The laser reference voltage (measured at the
connector labeled (LVREF) is a relative measurement of the power
of the cavity.
The following items are needed to clean the optics:
• Small Phillips-head screwdriver (#1)
• Cotton swabs
• Spectra Photo grade Acetone
• Digital Volt Meter (DVM)
Keep acetone away from the laser bench and from the high voltage
areas on the laser bench.
The reference voltage varies during the warm-up of the
instrument. If the sensor has been shut down for a period of time,
allow at least 30 minutes to warm up.
