8 RUNNING DECK
8.1 Running deck
The running deck is made of Finnish plywood; the deck is coated with a phenolic sheet. This
running deck material has proved to be the best in tests carried out by Tunturi and various
partners. To ensure a comfortable running feeling, the running deck is attached to the frame with
six elastic rubber bumpers. The bumpers dampen the shocks of running feet to the frame.
8.1.1 Reversing and Replacing
Both sides of the running deck are identical and can be used. The running deck must be reversed if
the surface shows any signs of wearing. If the hard phenolic sheet surface is worn out (light
plywood is visible) or there are longitudinal grooves on the deck surface, the belt lubrication will
no longer function and the treadmill use loads excessively the transmission system.
Reversing the deck requires removing the rollers. When the attachment screws of the running deck
are removed, both the deck and the belt can be pulled out from the rear of the treadmill.
8.2 Running Belt
8.2.1 Belt alignment
The belt is aligned by adjusting the rear roller position with the attachment bolts at the back of the
treadmill. If the belt drifts to the right, turn the right adjustment bolt approximately 0,25-0,50 turn
clockwise and the left adjustment bolt anticlockwise approximately half as much as you turned the
right bolt. Correspondingly, if the belt drifts to the left, the procedure is done vice versa. Adjusting
both bolts simultaneously is necessary so that the belt tension will not be much altered. The belt
alignment ought to be done at a speed of 5-6 km/h, and the effect of adjustment should be
followed for a few minutes.
