STEP 3: Remove the toilet seat
For most toilet seats, flip up the screw caps behind the seat with a
flathead screwdriver to access the screws. Turn counter-clockwise
to loosen the screws. Remove the seat and either store it (in case
you ever need it) or bury it (in case you want to give your old toilet a
proper goodbye). Just kidding, recycle it!
Dealing with a unique quick-release
or mounted toilet seat?
There’s a super easy fix. Simply unscrew the bolts
fastening the quick-release mounts to the toilet. Then
you can remove them and store them with your seat if
you ever need to re-install it. The bolts may be under a
plastic or metallic cover.

got the seat o, set it aside and you’re done!
TUSHY Tips
You may need to hold the nut on the underside of the screw with your
other hand (using pliers or a towel if necessary) while unscrewing.
If your toilet is dirty—hey, it happens!—it’s the perfect time to clean it!
