Overview

The MX-780 is a universal remote control designed to manage various IR devices in your home, and it can also control devices in different rooms when integrated with an MRF base station. This remote offers a customizable user interface and features a brilliant OLED color display with a hard button interface.

When any button on the MX-780 is pressed, both the color OLED screen and the remote's hard buttons illuminate. The three buttons on either side of the screen are labeled based on the selected activity or device, making it intuitive to navigate. The user interface is highly customizable, allowing you to configure buttons for various activities such, as "Watch TV" or "Listen to Radio." These activities can incorporate multiple commands (macros), enabling a single button press to turn multiple devices ON or OFF as needed.

The MX-780 communicates directly with RF base stations like the MRF-350 and MRF-260 using ultra-reliable narrow band RF at 418 MHz. It also natively communicates with URC Lighting via 418MHz RF, providing the ability to control your system without requiring a direct line-of-sight. This feature enhances flexibility in device placement and control.

Setting up complex systems with the MX-780 is facilitated by the Complete Control PC editor. To fully automate an audio/video system and integrate two-way automation of servers, a detailed understanding of each component, LAN configuration, WiFi optimization, and system operation is required. Therefore, a trained and certified professional audio/video installer is recommended to install an MX-780 remote control efficiently.

The remote's display shows the title (Main or device) at the top, with device or command names appearing below. All hard buttons on the MX-780 adapt to control the functions of the selected device. The "Title" at the top indicates the current main page or device being controlled. "Page" buttons allow you to access other available choices. The "Light" button backlights all the hard buttons for use in low-light conditions. The OLED button labels dynamically describe special features relevant to the current activity. "Volume" and "Mute" buttons consistently control sound regardless of the displayed screen. "Channel" and "Previous Channel" buttons change channels on selected devices like cable boxes. The 4-way cursor buttons enable easy navigation through on-screen guides and menus. Transport buttons (Play, Stop, Skip-, Skip+, FF, REW, and Pause) operate when the selected device supports them. The number keypad is used to enter channel numbers for Cable TV or track numbers for CDs.

Maintenance features include battery replacement and settings adjustments. To replace the batteries, unlock the battery cover by pushing up on the spring lock at the bottom, remove the cover, and observe the + and - polarity indicators. Insert four AA batteries into their positions, then replace the cover and snap it into place.

The MX-780 offers several configurable settings, accessible by pressing and holding the "MAIN" + "ENT" buttons for three seconds. If no button is pressed on the Settings screen for 30 seconds, the remote will return to the previous Settings or Main screen. To navigate between the two Settings screens, use the page buttons. To select a setting, press the button adjacent to it. To exit the settings screen, press either the "MAIN" or "EXIT" button.

Color screen settings provide two options:

  1. Brightness: Adjust the screen brightness using the left and right screen buttons next to the slider bar. After adjustment, press "Save." Pressing "Cancel" reverts to the last saved brightness. Note that higher brightness settings will deplete batteries faster.
  2. Automatic Turn Off: Adjust the duration the OLED screen remains illuminated after a button press. The left and right screen buttons next to the slider bar change the duration, from a minimum of 5 seconds to a maximum of 60 seconds. Press "Save" after adjustment, or "Cancel" to revert to the last saved setting. Increasing the Auto Turn Off time will also deplete batteries faster.

Button lighting settings offer two configurable options for the hard button backlight:

  1. Automatic ON:
    • Automatic Light Yes: The backlight automatically turns on every time a button is pressed.
    • Automatic Light No: The backlight only turns on when the dedicated "Lights" button (on the right side of the remote) is pressed. After making changes, press "Save." "Cancel" reverts to the last saved setting. Selecting "AutoLight Yes" will deplete batteries faster.
  2. Automatic Turn Off: Adjust the duration the backlight remains on after a button press, from a minimum of 5 seconds to a maximum of 60 seconds, using the left and right screen buttons. Press "Save" after adjustment, or "Cancel" to revert. Increasing this time will also deplete batteries faster.

System settings provide two options:

  1. Power Remaining: This displays the remaining battery life and allows you to adjust when the low battery warning screen appears. Use the left and right screen buttons to set the low battery percentage. Once the percentage is reached, a notification will appear, reminding you to replace the batteries. Press "Save" after adjustment, or "Cancel" to revert.
  2. System Info: This screen displays data about the MX-780's memory usage and operating system version. The "Next" screen button shows Operating System information, and "Prev" returns to System Memory information.

The "Erasing and Resetting" feature allows you to reset the MX-780's memory to factory default, which will erase all programming. This should only be done when instructed by Technical Support. To erase the program, press the "Erase" button. A secondary screen will then ask for confirmation.

The MX-780 is designed to protect itself if a button is continuously pressed (e.g., if it gets stuck between couch cushions). After 30 seconds, the remote will turn off and will not turn on again until the button is released, helping to conserve battery life and prevent unintended commands.
