Overview

The MX-890 Color LCD Screen universal remote control is designed for comprehensive control of audio/video systems, offering both infrared (IR) and radio frequency (RF) capabilities. This remote is intended for custom programming by a trained and certified professional audio/video installer to ensure optimal performance and automation of complex home theater and multi-room systems.

Function Description

The primary function of the MX-890 is to provide a centralized control point for various electronic devices within a home. It can directly control devices via IR signals or wirelessly communicate with RF base stations (such as MRX-1/RFX-250, MRF-350, and MRF-260) to control devices throughout the home without requiring direct line-of-sight. The remote also natively communicates with URC Lighting via RF.

The MX-890 features a brilliant 2-inch color LCD screen that displays activities and devices in your system. The screen is programmable, allowing for a customizable user interface tailored to specific activities like "Watch TV" or "Listen to Radio." These activities can incorporate multiple commands (macros) to automate sequences with a single button press, such as turning on or off several devices simultaneously.

Usage Features

  • Main Pages and Navigation: The remote's main pages display programmed activities and devices. Pressing the "MAIN" button accesses all programmed activities and devices. For systems with multiple pages, "PAGE" buttons allow navigation between them. Selecting an activity or device via an LCD hard button changes the screen to display relevant controls for that specific function.
  • Power Control: The "POWER" button turns your system ON, while the "SYSTEM" button turns all your equipment OFF.
  • Volume and Mute: Dedicated "VOL+" and "VOL-" buttons, along with a "MUTE" button, consistently control sound regardless of the currently displayed screen.
  • Channel Control: "CH+" and "CH-" buttons change channels when devices like cable boxes are selected. A "PREV CH" button is also available.
  • Transport Controls: Buttons for "PLAY," "STOP," "REC," "SKIP-," "SKIP+," "REW," and "PAUSE" operate when the selected device requires them, such as during media playback.
  • Navigation Buttons: These buttons facilitate easy navigation through on-screen guides and menus.
  • Number Keypad: The number keypad is used to enter channel numbers for devices like Cable TV or track numbers when listening to a CD.
  • Color Buttons: These buttons provide control over additional options offered by devices such as Cable, Satellite, or Blu-Ray players.
  • Pickup Sensor: The MX-890 is equipped with a pickup sensor. When the remote is picked up, both the color LCD screen and the physical buttons illuminate, enhancing usability in low-light conditions. This feature can be configured in the settings.
  • Charging Base: The remote comes with a charging base, eliminating the need for constant battery replacement. Simply place the MX-890 into the cradle for recharging. A status light on the base indicates charging (red) or full charge (blue). The 5V power adapter can also be plugged directly into the bottom of the remote.
  • Room Labels: Included room labels help identify which MX-890 belongs to which room, preventing mix-ups in multi-room installations.
  • Settings Screen: Accessing the settings menu is done by pressing and holding the "MAIN" and "ENT" buttons for three seconds. The settings screen allows users to adjust various parameters:
    • Sleep Timers: Configure the remote to enter sleep mode after a specified period of inactivity to conserve battery power. Separate settings are available for when the remote is on battery power and when it's on the cradle.
    • System Information: View details about the MX-890's operating system, memory usage, and firmware version.
    • Brightness: Adjust the brightness level of the LCD screen using a slider.
    • Power Settings: Monitor the remaining battery charge and set the threshold for low battery warning notifications.
    • Button Light: Adjust the brightness of the LED backlighting for the physical buttons.
    • Date and Time: If programmed to display, the date and time can be adjusted on this screen.
    • Sound: Control the button beep level, from off to loudest.
    • Pickup Settings: Enable or disable the pickup sensor feature.
    • Factory Default: This option resets the remote's memory to its factory condition, erasing all programming. It should only be used when instructed by technical support.
    • Exit: Return to normal operation from the settings screen.
  • Resetting the MX-890: In case of unusual behavior, a reset button located within the battery compartment can be pressed to cycle the remote's power and reboot the unit.

Maintenance Features

  • Environmental Care: The MX-890 is not waterproof and should be kept away from extreme cold, heat, damp, or wet locations. If water is spilled on it, the battery pack should be removed, and the remote allowed to dry for 48 hours before powering it up again. For other beverages like coffee, clean with distilled water, ensuring no liquid enters the device. Avoid dropping or impacting the remote.
  • Cleaning: Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the screen. Abrasive materials or excessive water should be avoided to prevent damage or liquid ingress.
  • Battery Care: The MX-890 uses a rechargeable Lithium Ion battery. If the remote will not be used for an extended period, the battery should be removed. Do not attempt to disassemble, alter, or apply heat to the battery. Avoid dropping the battery or subjecting it to severe impact. Lithium Ion batteries are recyclable, and information on drop-off locations can be obtained by calling 1-800-822-8837 or visiting http://www.rbrc.com.
