What to do if my Viking Refrigerator ice maker will not operate?
    • C
      Cheryl HarveyAug 26, 2025
If your Viking Refrigerator ice maker isn't working, verify that the freezer is cold enough to make ice, which may take overnight to reach the proper temperature. Ensure the signal arm is in the on (down) position, the water valve is turned on, and water is getting to the water valve. Check the water line for leaks.

Why is my Viking Wine Cooler not cold enough?
    • R
      rachael75Sep 18, 2025
If your Viking Wine Cooler isn't cold enough, several factors could be at play. First, the temperature control might be set too warm; try adjusting it to a colder setting and allow 24 hours for the temperature to stabilize. Excessive door openings can also impact the temperature, so allow the unit to stabilize for at least 24 hours. Make sure that the airflow to the front grille isn't blocked, as this can impede cooling. Finally, check the door gasket to ensure it's sealing properly; if not, adjust the door alignment or replace the gasket.

Overview

This document is an installation guide for the Viking 5 Series 15"W. Undercounter/Freestanding Nugget Ice Machine, model numbers FGN1515 and FPN1515. It provides comprehensive instructions for installation, safety, and maintenance, ensuring proper setup and operation of the ice machine.

Function Description

The Viking 5 Series Nugget Ice Machine is designed to produce nugget ice and store it in an integrated bin. It can be installed as an undercounter unit or as a freestanding appliance. The machine takes in room temperature air at the lower right front and expels warm air at the lower left front, requiring adequate airflow for optimal performance. It is designed for indoor use, with specific considerations for outdoor use if the stainless steel kickplate covering is retained. The unit requires a dedicated cold, potable water supply, a drain connection, and a proper electrical supply.

Electrical Requirements:

  • Voltage/Frequency: 115 V / 60 Hz
  • Circuit: 15 amp dedicated circuit
  • Cord: 6' 3-wire cord attached to product
  • Maximum Amp Usage: 5.0 amps
  • Grounding: Must be properly grounded; GFI (Ground Fault Interrupter) is required if mandated by NFPA-70, federal/state/local laws, or local ordinances. If a GFI is used, it should be of the receptacle type, with permanent wiring, on a dedicated circuit, connected to a standard breaker of appropriate size, rated for Class A (5 mA +/- 1 mA trip current), in good condition, and protected from moisture.

Water Inlet Requirements:

  • Tubing: 1/4" OD copper tubing inlet waterline (stainless steel flex or reinforced PVC tube may also be used).
  • Pressure: 20 psi min. to 80 psi max.
  • Temperature: 50°F (10°C) min. to 100°F (38°C) max.
  • Fitting: Compression fitting supplied, tied to the water inlet tube at the back of the cabinet.
  • Shut-off Valve: An easily accessible shut-off valve must be installed between the supply and the unit, not behind the unit.

Drain Requirements:

  • Pump Model (FPN1515): 3/8" (.95 cm) I.D. flexible tubing (included). The drain pump can lift water up to 10 feet (3.05 m) high and includes a check valve. An air gap is often required by local codes.
  • Gravity Model (FGN1515): 5/8" (1.6 cm) I.D. flexible tubing (not included). Gravity drain tubing must be vented, have no kinks, and slope to the building drain. Air gaps are typically required.
  • Drain Access: Located at the back of the unit.

Ice Storage Capacity:

  • Maximum Storage: 26 lbs.

Weight:

  • Approximate Shipping Weight (FGN1515): 124 lbs. (56.2 kg)
  • Approximate Shipping Weight (FPN1515): 129 lbs. (58.5 kg)

Usage Features

  • Undercounter/Freestanding Installation: The unit is versatile, allowing for installation beneath a countertop or as a standalone appliance.
  • Door Panel Options: The ice machine is supplied without a finished door panel. Users can choose between an accessory door panel (professional stainless steel) or a custom panel to match existing cabinetry.
    • Accessory Door Panel: Attached using 6 screws (supplied with door panel) and 2 machine screws (supplied with ice machine). Gasket removal and reinstallation are part of the process.
    • Custom Panel: Can be made of wood or other material, not exceeding 15 lbs.
      • Panel Width: 14-7/8" (37.9 cm)
      • Panel Height: 30-5/16" (77.0 cm)
      • Panel Thickness: 5/8" (14.5 cm) to 3/4" (1.9 cm)
      • Attachment is from the ice side of the door using wood screws or supplied panel mounting screws into pre-drilled holes.
  • Reversible Door Swing: The door hinges can be changed to open from either the left or right side. This must be done before attaching any door panel. The process involves removing and reattaching hinge brackets and the top panel.
  • Door Stop: A door stop pin can be inserted into the top and bottom hinges to prevent the door from opening too far and damaging adjacent cabinets.
  • Kickplate: The unit comes with a black kickplate with a stainless steel covering. The stainless steel covering can be removed to reveal the black kickplate underneath, using supplied black screws. The stainless steel covering should NOT be removed if the ice machine is used outdoors.
  • Leveling Legs: Adjustable leveling legs allow for precise leveling of the unit, crucial for proper operation and drainage. Black caps are provided to snap over the bottom of the leveling legs after adjustment.

Maintenance Features

  • Airflow Management: The design emphasizes proper airflow, with intake at the lower right front and exhaust at the lower left front. Restricting this airflow will negatively impact ice production.
  • Drainage System:
    • Pump Models: Equipped with an internal drain pump to manage water removal, especially useful for installations where the drain connection is above the unit's base.
    • Gravity Models: Rely on gravity for drainage, requiring the drain connection to be below the unit's base and proper sloping of the drain tubing.
  • Service Access: The unit includes a service access panel for inspection and maintenance.
  • Installation Checklist: A comprehensive checklist is provided to ensure all installation steps are completed correctly, including water supply, drain connections, electrical supply, leveling, and removal of packing materials.
  • Troubleshooting: The guide advises contacting an authorized service agency for any service needs, providing contact information for Viking Range, LLC. Users are instructed to have model and serial numbers, date of purchase, and dealer information readily available.
  • Safety Precautions: Emphasizes reading all instructions, proper grounding, avoiding flammable fluids, and turning off power before servicing. It also includes warnings regarding child entrapment for old refrigeration units.
