Power up the immersion heater. Check that the line current complies with the expected val-
ue.
With forced convection heating of liquid or gas, make sure that a reduction in the flow to be-
low the minimum threshold provided for by the thermal transfer calculations imperatively stops the
heater's operation.
5.2.1 If a control thermostat is present
Set the thermostat to the desired temperature.
Ensure the control thermostat is functioning correctly before stabilising the temperature at the
theoretical temperature of use: using its regulator button should cause the heater to stop and
restart.
5.2.2 If temperature limiters are present
Our safety temperature limiters (manual reset type TB) and our combined temperature con-
trol/limiters (type TRB3) are both fitted with a reset button. If the threshold monitored is exceeded,
the electrical circuit opens and locks itself mechanically.
When the reading returns to approximately 10% below the threshold, the ratchet switch can
be manually unlocked again by pushing the button found on top (cf. thermostat user manual). The
limiter then becomes fully operational again.
Measuring the temperature using a thermometer, proceed by continuing to adjust the setpoint
until the desired temperature is reached.
If the temperature of the fluid monitored exceeds the safety temperature threshold, the con-
tacts of the limiter will open in the immersion heater thermowell, irreversibly halting the supply of
heat. In order to switch the immersion heater on again, press the temperature limiter reset button
found inside the connection box. However, this operation must only be carried out once the fault
that triggered the heat safety interruption mechanism has been resolved (switch off the equipment
before doing so).
5.3 Stopping the appliance
Where liquid (and especially gas) are heated by forced convection, the flow of fluid must be
maintained for several minutes after the equipment has been stopped and after the immersion
heater has been switched off, so that the heat accumulated in the heating elements can be elimi-
nated.
In certain conditions, non-compliance with this instruction can destroy the immersion heater
and/or its surroundings, potentially posing a danger to users.
6 MAINTENANCE
Considering its simplicity and great reliability, the heating element requires a low degree of
maintenance.
After 50 hours of operation:
Check that the electrical connections are securely tightened (cf. 4.3).
Check that the safety and control mechanisms are in good operational condition.
At least once a year or more often if necessary:
See previous paragraph.
If the immersion heater is used for heating liquid, remove it and without damaging its heating ele-
ments, clean away any sludge or limescale deposited on them (these risk considerably shortening
their life by obstructing heat transfer with the liquid). Eliminate any deposits that have accumulated
at the bottom of the tank.
If used for heating gas, eliminate any condensates accumulated in the bottom of the metal
vessel.
