Bleed in order to remove any pockets of air before the heater is switched on, and monitor the level
of liquid continuously. If fitted inside a heater in operation, check the direction of flow and as a min-
imum, install a bleeder, valve and flow controller to address any pockets of gas that may form dur-
ing use.
If the appliance is heating gas, the flow of the gas to be heated must be monitored at all times. Pay
particular attention when the electricity supply is switched off – the flow of gas must be maintained
until the heating elements have completely cooled down.
If assembly is on the tapping pipe of a metal vessel, the non-heating length must be greater than
that of the tapping pipe.
Do not touch the heater element while it is in operation. Allow it to cool down once the heater has
been switched off.
4 ASSEMBLY AND CONNECTION
4.1 Before installation
Check that:
-
the materials comprising the immersion heater and its load (in W/cm
2
) are compatible
with the fluid to be heated (this depends on the heat exchange conditions in particular), and that
there is no risk of galvanic coupling;
-
the immersion heater's threaded plug and the method of assembling the rods are com-
patible with the pressure and temperature conditions to which they will be exposed. The diameter
and pitch of the thread should be identical to those of the female part that the immersion heater is
screwed onto (generally a solder ring);
-
the sealing gasket is correctly in place and compatible with the heated product at the
operating temperature in question;
-
the power supply voltage corresponds to that indicated on the product nameplate;
-
the immersion heater you are about to install has been designed, manufactured and
tested to meet the required safety standards of the Pressure Equipment Directive (PED)
2014/68/EU (Annex I). It may therefore be installed on a vessel covered by this directive up to risk
category I, within the maximum allowable pressure PS and maximum/minimum allowable tempera-
ture TS;
-
during installation, provision has been made for a removal length at least as long as the
overall length of the immersion heater (between the bearing surface of the attachment interface
and the rest of the appliance);
-
the immersion heater is installed in such a manner that ensures the heating length (Lc)
is always immersed when the heater is switched on. Vertical assembly (especially head at the top)
or at an angle are tricky; the installation of the heater, or another mechanism, should preferably al-
low any pockets of gas to be degassed automatically.

The electrical connection box is assembled as follows:
•
directly on the attachment interface for a usage temperature of less than 110°C;
•
on a plug separated from the attachment interface by a distance B (stated on the
plan in mm) according to the temperature of use – for applications at above 110°C or
for the majority of applications at negative temperatures.

Provide protection against direct sunlight to prevent the box from becoming unduly hot.
4.2 Assembly
Horizontal (± 15°) mounting is preferred. If the heater is mounted vertically, the connection
box should preferably be placed at the bottom. If it is mounted vertically with the box at the top,
