The third stage prevents the battery from self-discharging and
gasification of the electrolyte. The charging voltage of the compact
charger is reduced to a lower level, usually to a value of around 13.5 V.
The compact charger starts a new charging process if one of the
following conditions is fulfilled:
– The mains voltage is switched off and on again.
– The battery self-discharges causing the internal resistance to reduce
and therefore requiring a higher current.
