The Wellue™ Automatic Upper Arm Blood Pressure Monitor, powered by VIATOM, is a medical device designed for measuring, displaying, reviewing, and storing ECG and blood pressure variations. It is intended for use by adults in home or healthcare facilities environments. The data and results provided by this device are for pre-check screening purposes only and should not be directly used for diagnostic interpretation or treatment.
Function Description
The monitor offers two primary functions: blood pressure measurement and ECG recording.
For blood pressure measurement, the device utilizes the oscillometric method. It is designed to be applied to the upper arm using an arm cuff. The measurement process is largely automated, with the monitor inflating and deflating the cuff to obtain readings.
For ECG recording, the device features integrated ECG electrodes. It supports cable-free ECG measurements using various body positions, including right hand to left leg (Lead I), hand to hand (Lead II), right hand to abdomen (Lead II), and right hand to chest (Chest Lead). The device can detect heartbeats during ECG recording and provides a heartbeat sound, which can be turned on or off via an accompanying app.
The monitor includes a display screen for showing results and an LED indicator to show battery status. It has a built-in Bluetooth wireless connectivity feature (Bluetooth 4.0 BLE) that allows for exporting measured records to mobile phones and tablets running iOS or Android platforms.
Usage Features
The device is operated through a Start/Stop button and a Function button.
- Start/Stop Button: This button serves multiple purposes. It powers the device on/off and initiates or stops blood pressure measurements. When in Bluetooth mode, pressing this button will exit Bluetooth mode.
- Function Button: This button is used to start ECG measurements. Holding it for 2 seconds allows users to review historical data. Holding it for 3 seconds activates Bluetooth mode.
Blood Pressure Measurement:
To ensure accurate blood pressure readings, users are advised to rest for at least 5 minutes before measurement and avoid stressful times. Tight-fitting clothing should be removed from the arm. The arm cuff should be wrapped around the upper arm, about 1 to 2 cm above the inside of the elbow, directly against the skin. The artery position mark on the cuff should align with the artery. During measurement, the user should be relaxed and comfortably seated in a chair with feet flat on the floor, and the arm with the cuff should be level with the heart. The monitor automatically inflates and slowly deflates the cuff, with a typical measurement taking about 30 seconds. The readings are displayed upon completion. Users should remain still and avoid squeezing the cuff during measurement. After measurement, the cuff gas is automatically released, and the device can be turned off by pressing the button. The device also has an automatic power shut-off function after one minute of inactivity.
ECG Recording:
Before recording an ECG, it's important to ensure the ECG electrodes are positioned directly against the skin. If the skin or hands are dry, moistening them with a damp cloth is recommended. Dirty electrodes should be cleaned with a soft cloth or cotton bud dampened with disinfectant alcohol. During the measurement, users should avoid touching their body with the hand taking the measurement and ensure no skin contact between the right and left hand to prevent incorrect readings. Remaining still, not speaking, and holding the device steady are crucial to avoid falsifying measurements. It is recommended to take measurements while sitting. The device provides text and voice guidance via a connected phone app to assist with the measurement.
To start an ECG recording, the user places their right palm on the right-side electrodes and the left-side electrodes on the desired body position. Pressing the Function button starts the recording, which lasts for 30 seconds, after which the results are displayed. To record another ECG, the Start/Stop button returns to the Home screen, and the Function button is pressed again. Recordings must be at least 30 seconds for analysis. Different signal amplitudes may be obtained from different measurement methods, with the right hand to left leg method typically yielding a stronger signal.
History Record Review:
Users can review past measurement results and replay recorded ECG waveforms in the History screen. This is accessed by holding the Function button for 2 seconds. The last measurement result is displayed by default. For ECG recordings, the Heart Rate is shown first, followed by a replay of the 30-second ECG waveform. The NEXT button allows viewing subsequent records, and the HOME button exits the History screen.
Bluetooth Connectivity:
The monitor's Bluetooth feature allows for data export. To activate Bluetooth mode, the Function button should be pressed and held for 3 seconds. Data can only be exported when the device is in Bluetooth mode.
Battery and Charging:
The device is powered by a rechargeable lithium-polymer battery. It is charged using a Micro USB cable connected to a USB charger or a PC. A full charge takes approximately 2 hours, indicated by a blue LED light. The monitor has low power consumption, and a full charge can last for months. A battery symbol on the screen indicates the current battery status. The device cannot be used while charging.
Maintenance Features
Proper maintenance is essential to protect the monitor and ensure accurate readings.
- Cleaning: The monitor and arm cuff should be cleaned with a dry, soft cloth or a soft cloth moistened with a mild (neutral) detergent, then wiped dry. Abrasive or volatile cleaners, gasoline, thinners, or similar solvents should not be used. If ECG electrodes are dirty, they should be cleaned with a soft cloth or cotton swab dampened with alcohol-based sanitizer.
- Storage: When not in use, the monitor and its components should be stored in a clean, safe location, preferably in its storage case. It should not be stored in areas exposed to extreme temperatures, high humidity, direct sunlight, dust, or corrosive vapors like bleach.
- General Care: The device should not be submerged in water or other liquids. It should not be dropped or subjected to strong impact. Tightly folding the cuff or storing the hose tightly twisted for long periods should be avoided, as this can shorten the life of components. The device and cuff are not water-resistant, so protection from rain, sweat, and water is necessary.
- Repair: Users are cautioned against disassembling or attempting to repair the monitor or its components, as this may lead to inaccurate readings.
The Wellue™ monitor is designed for user convenience and provides essential health monitoring capabilities with clear operational guidelines and maintenance instructions to ensure its longevity and performance.
