Why is the spinner not turning on my Western Spreader, even though the motor is running?
    • W
      williamsongaryAug 6, 2025
If the spinner on your Western Spreader isn't turning even though the motor is running, there could be a few reasons. First, check for any obstructions preventing rotation and clear them. Second, the drive belt might be loose or damaged; adjust the tension or replace the belt if it's worn or damaged. Third, the motor pulley might not be secured to the motor shaft; tighten the pulley set screw or replace the pulley if it's damaged. Fourth, the spinner pulley might not be secured to the spinner shaft; replace the cap screw and nut if they're missing or damaged, and replace the pulley if it's damaged. Finally, the spinner shaft bearings might be dry or seized; grease or replace the bearings.

What to do if ice control material is not flowing from my Western Spreader, but the spinner is turning?
    • S
      stephanie46Aug 12, 2025
If ice control material isn't flowing even when the spinner is turning on your Western Spreader, it's likely due to bridging of material or an obstruction in the hopper. To resolve this, unplug the spreader harness and tag out if required. Check the hopper for material, and free any bridged material or obstruction.

Why does the speed control dial on my Western Spreader not change the motor speed?
    • M
      moralesbruceAug 17, 2025
If the speed control dial on your Western Spreader's Variable Speed (PWM) cab control isn't changing the motor speed, it could be due to a malfunctioning cab control, in which case you should replace it. Alternatively, the red and white connectors might be incorrectly hooked up; reconnect them so that red matches red and white matches white.

How to adjust the spread pattern on my Western Spreader?
    • B
      Brian LeeAug 22, 2025
If the spread pattern of your Western Spreader is not optimum, it may be caused by the deflector being out of adjustment (if equipped). To correct this, unplug the spreader harness and tag out, if required. Change the deflector adjustment to suit the desired pattern.

How to troubleshoot no power to the cab control on my Western Spreader?
    • J
      Jessica SandersOct 27, 2025
If there's no power to the cab control on your Western Spreader, and the ignition and control switches are on but the indicator light isn't illuminated, there are several potential causes. First, the control connector plug might be loose; check the plug connection at the cab control. Second, the battery lead in-line fuse might be blown; change the fuse (30A) and inspect for short circuits, also check the power supply for 12V DC. Third, the battery connection might be poor; check for a low battery, and clean or replace the ring terminal, coating it with dielectric grease. Fourth, the battery wiring harness might be damaged; repair or replace damaged wires or the harness as required. Finally, if you have an old style ON/OFF control, the control circuit breaker might be tripped; turn the cont...

What to do if my Western Spreader does not operate but the indicator light is on?
    • K
      Kimberly WilsonNov 1, 2025
If the Western Spreader isn't operating but the indicator light is on, it could be due to several reasons. First, if you have a variable speed control, an overloaded condition might be activating the over-current protection; try resetting the cab control by turning the power off, then press the START/BLAST switch to resume operation. Second, a damaged wire harness or open circuit between the cab control and spreader could be the cause; inspect the plug connections at both the cab control and spreader, check the wire connections at the spreader motor and vehicle battery, disconnect the motor leads, turn the control on, set the cab control to maximum on variable speed controls, and check for voltage at the motor leads; repair or replace any damaged wires or connectors and check the 30A in-li...
