      Mark AndersonJul 28, 2025
If the spinner on your Western Spreader isn't spinning and there's no power, here's what you can check: * Ensure the spreader control is turned ON. * If using an ON/OFF control, check if the circuit breaker has tripped; if so, turn the control OFF, reset the breaker, and then turn the control ON. * Inspect the battery lead in-line fuse and replace it if blown, looking for any short circuits. * Check the battery connection for any issues; clean or replace the ring terminal and apply dielectric grease. * Examine the battery wiring harness for damage and repair or replace as needed.

If your Western Spreader's spinner isn't spinning under a load, even though the motor is running, the issue might be with the drive belt or pulley. You should: * Remove the motor cap and check if the drive belt is broken or loose. Tighten or replace it as needed. * Also, remove the motor cap and make sure the motor and drive pulley set screws are tight.

If your Western Spreader's spinner and motor aren't turning, but there is power at the red wire connection, consider these potential causes: 1. A jammed or overloaded spinner, auger, or drive shaft. Unplug the spreader harness and try turning the spinner by hand to check for obstructions. 2. Damaged spinner shaft bearings. Unplug the harness, remove the drive belt, and manually turn the spinner to check for free movement. Lubricate or replace the bearings if needed. 3. A damaged motor. Manually turn the spinner. If it turns freely and the belt/pulleys are in good condition, check for 12V DC at the orange wire to white wire connection near the motor. If power is present, replace the motor. 4. A damaged spreader control. Check for 12V DC at the white wire to white wire connection at the...
