Why does my Westinghouse Portable Generator start then shut off?
    • K
      Kimberly FloresAug 3, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator starts and then shuts down, there are a few potential causes. Make sure that you have enough fuel by refueling the generator. Check the engine oil level and correct it if it's incorrect. A dirty air filter can cause the engine to shut down, so clean it. Contaminated fuel may also be the problem, so drain the fuel tank and refuel with fresh gasoline.

What to do if my Westinghouse WGEN5300DFC has no power at AC receptacles?
    • J
      Jack GutierrezAug 7, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator is not providing power at the AC receptacles, the AC circuit breakers may have tripped. Check the AC loads and reset the circuit breakers. Also, the issue may be with the power tool or appliance you are using; replace or repair the faulty tool or appliance, then stop and restart the engine.

Why does my Westinghouse WGEN5300DFC engine lack power?
    • C
      Crystal ClaytonAug 11, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator engine lacks power, the air filter may be restricted. Clean or replace the air filter. Also, bad fuel can cause a lack of power; drain the fuel tank and refuel with fresh gasoline.

What to do if my Westinghouse WGEN5300DFC runs rough when load applied?
    • J
      Jason WatersAug 16, 2025
If the engine of your Westinghouse Portable Generator runs rough or bogs when a load is applied, the air filter may be dirty. Clean the air filter. The generator might also be overloaded, so unplug some devices. A faulty power tool or appliance can also cause this issue; replace or repair the tool or appliance, then stop and restart the engine.

Why do I smell propane fuel from my Westinghouse Portable Generator?
    • B
      Brittney LaneAug 19, 2025
If you notice a propane fuel smell with your Westinghouse Portable Generator, it could be that the fuel regulator, fuel hose, or fittings are not securely sealed. Use a soap solution to check each connection and tighten as needed. The propane fuel regulator is equipped with a vent that will allow a small amount of propane fuel vapor to escape from the regulator when the propane tank valve is opened. This can be normal providing the venting of the propane is brief. It also may be caused by residual fuel from the carburetor dispersing after operation, which is normal and needs no correction.

    Christopher WilliamsAug 25, 2025
Why is there frost on the propane tank of my Westinghouse Portable Generator?
    • W
      williecallahanAug 25, 2025
If you see frost on the propane tank or regulator of your Westinghouse Portable Generator, it may be because the temperature of the propane tank has dropped below the dew point, causing condensation to turn to frost or ice, typically in humid conditions. If all propane fuel handling equipment is functioning normally, no correction is needed. If you suspect your propane fuel tank is not equipped with an Overfilling Prevention Device (OPD), discontinue operation immediately and replace the propane fuel tank with a propane tank equipped with a an OPD. If you suspect your propane fuel tank has been overfilled, discontinue operation immediately and return the propane fuel tank to the place of purchase or refilling.

What to do if my Westinghouse Portable Generator has poor performance on propane?
    • N
      Nicholas LewisAug 28, 2025
If your Westinghouse Portable Generator experiences poor performance or engine stalling on propane, inspect the propane fuel line for kinks or obstructions and remove them. Ensure the fuel selector valve is properly positioned, rotating it fully until the pointer aligns with the desired fuel. If gasoline wasn't purged from the carburetor before switching to propane, close the propane fuel tank valve, move the fuel selector switch to gas, start the engine, and let it run until the gasoline is consumed; then, begin the propane startup procedure.
