OPERATING MANUAL AND USER GUIDE
23
The MX Series subwoofers provide extended high power, low frequency enhancement for
two way and three way sound systems. When combined with the MX Series of two way
enclosures, optimum two and three way system configurations become available.
Of the three MX subwoofer models, only the MX-118B band pass subwoofer enclosure
does not require the use of a crossover. The MX-F18B and MX-218B subwoofers require
an external active crossover network to provide a low frequency, line level output to the
dedicated subwoofer amplifier for proper processing of the low frequency portion of the
audio signal. It is not recommended that full range signals be sent to the MX-F18B and
MX-218B subwoofers. For details, consult the manufacturer's operating instructions for the
active crossover and amplifiers that are in use.
Parallel connections to additional enclosures will result in decreased impedance loads
on the amplifier. To prevent amplifier damage, be aware of cabinet impedances and the
limitations of the amplifier in use before connecting additional speaker cabinets.
Two 8 ohm speaker cabinets, connected in parallel, provide a 4 ohm load to the amplifier.
Four 8 ohm speaker cabinets provide a 2 ohm load to the amplifier, which can be too
low for some amplifiers and can result in decreased performance and overheating of the
amplifier.
