Why does Whirlpool WDT970SAHZ cycle runs too long?
    • S
      Sarah HebertSep 4, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher cycle is running too long (up to 3 hours), it's designed to use less water and energy. A water heater setting of 120°F (49°C) is recommended, as the dishwasher delays while heating cooler water. Some options will add time to the cycle; the Heat Dry option adds about 45 minutes. Consider using the 1-Hour Wash cycle. Run hot water at a nearby faucet before starting the cycle.

How to get rid of odors in Whirlpool Dishwasher?
    • S
      Samantha BlackSep 18, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher has odors, and it's not used daily, run a rinse cycle with a partial load until a full load is ready. You can also run a vinegar rinse by placing 2 cups (500 mL) of white vinegar in an upright glass measuring cup in the lower rack and running a Normal cycle with the Heat Dry option turned off (do not use detergent). The dishwasher may not be draining properly.

What do blinking lights on Whirlpool Dishwasher mean?
    • P
      Patricia FreemanSep 16, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher has blinking lights, it indicates the cycle is paused or was interrupted by opening the door. If the Start/Resume light is blinking, press the START/RESUME keypad and close the door within 4 seconds. If the Clean light or any other lights are blinking and the dishwasher will not run, call for service.

What causes etching (permanent cloudiness) on Whirlpool WDT970SAHZ glassware?
    • D
      Daniel WileySep 14, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher has etching (permanent cloudiness) on glassware, it's an erosion of the surface caused by water that is too hot, too much detergent with soft water, or pre-washing. Since etching is permanent damage, adjust the detergent amount to match the water hardness, stop pre-washing, and use water heating options only when incoming water temperature is below 120°F (49°C) to prevent further etching.

Why is the tub discolored in my Whirlpool Dishwasher?
    • M
      mooreelizabethSep 12, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher tub is discolored, high iron content in the water or tomato-based foods can cause discoloration. Remove large amounts of tomato-based foods from dishes before loading. A citrus-based cleaner can be used to clean the tub.

How to deal with hard water in Whirlpool WDT970SAHZ Dishwasher?
    • J
      John LeeSep 12, 2025
If you notice hard water (white residue) on the interior of your Whirlpool dishwasher or on glassware, extremely hard water mineral deposits can cause damage and affect cleaning. A water softener is recommended if your water hardness is 15 grains or more. If a water softener isn't installed, use a commercial cleaner designed for dishwashers monthly, clean the upper and lower filters monthly, always use a rinse aid and high-quality detergent, and consider a detergent booster/water softener additive.

Why detergent remains in dispenser of Whirlpool Dishwasher?
    • L
      lawrencedanielSep 9, 2025
If detergent remains in the dispenser or the tablet is on the bottom of the tub, check for dishware blocking the detergent dispenser from opening properly. Ensure your detergent is fresh and lump-free. Also, make sure the cycle has completed (the Clean light is on); if not, resume the cycle by closing the door and pressing Start/Resume.

How to fix Whirlpool WDT970SAHZ that does not run?
    • L
      larry93Sep 7, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher isn't running, and the Start/Resume light is blinking, press START/RESUME and close the door within 4 seconds. Ensure the door is closed and latched, and that large dishes aren't interfering with the wash system. Check for items protruding through the racks or tall items hitting the upper rack or spray arm. Adjust loading as needed. Press START/RESUME or CANCEL, or open and close the door before selecting your cycle/option. Ensure the Control Lock feature is off by pressing and holding SANI RINSE for 3 seconds. Select a cycle, ensure power to the dishwasher, and check the circuit breaker or fuse. If lights other than Start/Resume blink or the numeric display shows 'F2E2,' call for service.

Why is my Whirlpool WDT970SAHZ so noisy?
    • D
      danielaustinSep 5, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher is noisy, surging sounds can occur during draining, and hissing from the water valve is normal. A snap sound may be heard when the detergent dispenser opens or when the door is opened. Ensure proper installation and that filters are correctly installed. A thumping sound may occur if items extend beyond the racks and interfere with the wash arms; readjust the dishware and resume the cycle.

Why is my Whirlpool Dishwasher not drying?
    • C
      coopermaxwellAug 20, 2025
If your Whirlpool dishwasher isn't drying dishes properly, remember that plastic and nonstick items are harder to dry. Towel drying may be needed for these items. Use rinse aid along with the Heat Dry option. Ensure proper loading, and unload the bottom rack first. Place glasses and cups with concave bottoms on the more slanted side of the rack.
