This document is an owner's manual for the WORX Landroid, an unmanned robotic lawnmower. The manual provides comprehensive instructions for its safe operation, setup, maintenance, and troubleshooting.
The Landroid's primary function is automatic lawn mowing. It is designed to operate autonomously, maintaining a healthier and better-looking lawn by mowing frequently. The device chooses its mowing direction at random, ensuring even coverage without leaving unattractive mowing paths. It is capable of mowing various lawn sizes, with its efficiency depending on factors such as grass species, growth rate, blade sharpness, humidity, surrounding temperature, and the presence of obstacles. The Landroid is not intended for digging, sweeping, or snow cleaning.
Key usage features of the Landroid include:
- Automatic Operation: The Landroid operates on its own, returning to its charging base when it needs to recharge, sensing rain, and stopping itself if it encounters a problem or is lifted off the ground.
- Charging Base Navigation: When the battery is low, the Landroid stops mowing and follows the boundary wire in an anti-clockwise direction back to its charging base. It is pre-programmed to mow near the boundary wire once a week by default, typically on Mondays. This boundary cut can be deactivated via the smartphone app or control panel.
- Rain Sensors: Equipped with rain sensors, the Landroid detects rain and returns to its charging base. It will resume mowing after a set delay time (default 180 minutes), which can be adjusted. If the delay time is set to 0, it will continue mowing even in rain.
- Boundary Wire Sensing: The Landroid adheres to the border defined by the boundary wire, using front sensors to detect it. The boundary wire must accurately outline the intended mowing area, and any excess wire should be cut and stored separately.
- Starting and Stopping: The Landroid can be stopped by pressing the STOP button. To start mowing, the ON/OFF key is pressed, followed by entering the PIN code and pressing START.
- Cut to Edge Technology: The off-centered blade turning disc design allows for a clean cut with minimal distance to the boundary or wall, reducing the need for manual trimming. A protective cover underneath prevents objects from touching the blades.
- Adjustable Cutting Height: The cutting height can be adjusted between 30mm and 60mm. For the first use, it is recommended to cut the grass to no more than 90mm with a manual lawnmower, then set the Landroid's cutting height to its maximum (60mm).
- Dry Weather Operation: The Landroid performs best in dry weather. Wet grass can accumulate on the blade disc and within the motor, potentially causing traction issues.
- Lightning Storm Protection: In case of a lightning storm, it is advised to unplug the charging base, disconnect the boundary wire, and ensure the Landroid is not charging.
- Smartphone Connectivity: The Landroid can connect to a smartphone via an app, allowing users to change general settings, view status, and receive error messages. The app also facilitates software updates.
- Manual Charging: The Landroid can be manually docked into the charging base for charging without the boundary wire.
- Security: The Landroid can be locked via the smartphone app to prevent unauthorized use.
Maintenance features are crucial for the Landroid's longevity and optimal performance:
- Regular Cleaning: The Landroid should be cleaned regularly. This involves cleaning the body with a soft brush or clean cloth and removing grass clippings and debris. It is important not to use a hose, high-pressure washers, or pour running water on the Landroid, as it is an electric machine.
- Underside Cleaning: The underside, including the blade disc, chassis, and wheels, should be cleaned thoroughly with a soft brush or moist rag. The blade disc should rotate freely, and blades should spin freely around their fixing screws. Any lodged debris must be removed to prevent cracks in the blade disc.
- Blade Replacement: Blades should be checked weekly for wear or damage and replaced as a set, typically every season or every two months with daily use. New screws must always be used when fitting new blades to ensure proper retention and balance. Protective gloves should be worn during blade replacement.
- Contact Pin and Charging Strip Cleaning: The contact pins on the charging base and the charging strips on the Landroid should be cleaned periodically to ensure successful charging.
- Battery Care: The 20V Li-Ion battery should be fully charged and stored in a cool, dry place (0-55°C) for proper storage.
- Winter Hibernation: For extended battery life and machine health, it is recommended to store the Landroid in a shed or garage during winter. Before storage, the Landroid should be thoroughly cleaned, fully charged, and the battery removed. The power should be turned off. The boundary wire can remain in the ground but its ends should be protected.
- Software Updates: Software can be updated via USB or through the smartphone app, which notifies users when new versions are available.
