Overview

The WyreStorm EX-100-4K-PRO is a fully featured HDMI extender set designed to transmit 4K video, HD audio, Ethernet, USB, power, and control signals over a single Cat6 cable up to 100m (328ft). It leverages the HDBaseT 2.0 specification to ensure robust and high-quality signal transmission.

Function Description:

The EX-100-4K-PRO system consists of a transmitter (TX) and a receiver (RX) unit. The transmitter connects to an HDMI source, while the receiver connects to an HDMI display. The core function is to extend these signals over long distances using standard Cat5e/6/6a cabling, overcoming the distance limitations of direct HDMI connections.

It supports the extension of various signals:

  • HDMI: Carries video resolutions up to 4K (3840x2160p @30Hz 8bit 4:4:4 and 4096x2160p @60Hz 8bit 4:2:0) and HD audio formats including 2ch PCM, up to 7.1 DTS-X, and Dolby Atmos. It also supports HDCP, CEC, and DVI/D with an adapter.
  • HDBaseT: The primary transmission medium for all signals, supporting HDCP, CEC, 2-way PoH (Power over HDBaseT), bidirectional IR, and RS-232.
  • Ethernet: Provides 10/100 Mbps auto-negotiating network connectivity through two 8-pin RJ-45 female ports, allowing for network extension alongside AV signals.
  • USB 2.0: Features a USB Type A port for local host control on the transmitter and two USB Type B ports for remote host control over HDBaseT on the receiver, enabling the extension of USB peripherals like flash drives, interactive whiteboards, and personal computers.
  • S/PDIF (Digital Optical): Includes TOSLINK input and output ports on both the transmitter and receiver for extending digital audio signals (2ch and up to DTS digital and Dolby digital).
  • Analog Audio: Offers 3.5mm (1/8in) stereo jack for Line In on the transmitter and Line Out on the receiver, allowing for the extension of analog audio signals.
  • IR (Infrared): Supports bidirectional IR transmission over HDBaseT, with 3.5mm (1/8in) mono IR TX ports and 3.5mm (1/8in) stereo IR RX ports on both units. This enables control of source devices from the display location and vice-versa.
  • RS-232: Provides 3-pin screw-down Phoenix connector for bidirectional RS-232 pass-through over HDBaseT, facilitating control system integration for devices at either end.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Video Resolutions (Max):
    • 1920x1080p @60Hz 16bit: 15m/49ft (HDMI), 150m/492ft (Cat6/6a/7)
    • 3840x2160p @30Hz 8bit 4:4:4: 7m/23ft (HDMI), 100m/328ft (Cat6/6a/7)
    • 4096x2160p @60Hz 8bit 4:2:0: 7m/23ft (HDMI), 100m/328ft (Cat6/6a/7)
  • Maximum Pixel Clock: 297MHz
  • Supported Standards: DCI
  • Power Supply: Input: 100~240V AC 50/60Hz | Output: 12V DC 2A
  • PoH (2-way): 48V 15.4W, allowing either the transmitter or receiver to power the other unit over the HDBaseT cable.
  • Max Power Consumption: 26.5W
  • Operating Temperature: 0 to +45°C (32 to +113°F), 10% to 90%, non-condensing
  • Storage Temperature: -20 to +70°C (-4 to +158°F), 10% to 90%, non-condensing
  • Maximum BTU: 90.42
  • Dimensions: 20mm/0.79in (Height), 272mm/10.71in (Width), 99mm/3.9in (Depth)
  • Weight: 0.72kg/1.58lbs
  • Regulatory: CE | FCC | RoHS

Usage Features:

  • PoH (Power over HDBaseT): Simplifies installation by requiring only one power supply for either the transmitter or receiver, which then powers the other unit over the HDBaseT cable. This reduces cable clutter and the need for power outlets at both ends.
  • Bidirectional IR and RS-232: Enables flexible control options, allowing users to control source devices from the display location and vice-versa, or integrate with third-party control systems.
  • USB 2.0 Extension: Facilitates the use of USB peripherals at extended distances, useful for interactive displays, KVM applications, or accessing media from a remote computer.
  • Digital and Analog Audio Extension: Provides versatile audio routing options, supporting both high-fidelity digital audio and standard analog audio signals.
  • Dipswitch Settings: Front-panel dipswitches on both units allow for configuration of various functions, including "Long Cable Mode" (must be set on both TX and RX) and USB host/device roles (reversed on TX and RX).
  • Mounting Brackets: Includes mounting brackets for both TX and RX units, allowing for secure installation in various environments.
  • Phoenix Connectors: Utilizes screw-down Phoenix connectors for power and RS-232, ensuring secure and reliable connections.

Maintenance Features:

  • Troubleshooting Guide: The quickstart guide provides a dedicated troubleshooting section for common issues like "No or Poor Quality Picture" and "No or Intermittent 3rd party Device Control," offering practical steps to diagnose and resolve problems.
  • Wiring Guidelines: Emphasizes the importance of proper wiring, recommending the use of pre-terminated HDMI and DP cables and adherence to EIA568B standard for HDBaseT cabling to ensure optimal performance and minimize signal degradation.
  • Cable Tester Recommendation: Suggests using a cable tester to verify cable functionality, which is crucial for diagnosing connectivity issues.
  • Firmware Update Capability: The dipswitch settings include a "Firmware Update" mode, indicating that the device can receive updates to improve performance or add new features.
  • Warranty Information: Comes with a five-year warranty, providing assurance of product quality and support for potential defects.
  • Online Resources: Recommends visiting the product page on wyrestorm.com for updates to the quickstart guide and other product information, ensuring users have access to the latest documentation and support.
