The ETS Stealth series heat pump units are designed to provide efficient cooling and heating for residential and commercial applications. These units utilize Twin Single™ compressor technology, which allows for optimized performance and energy savings. They are intended for installation with matching variable speed Enhancer air handlers or Diamond furnaces, corresponding coils, and sweat connect lines. To ensure proper installation and optimal performance, a factory-specified balanced port hard shut-off TXV kit must be used.
The heat pump operates in both cooling and heating modes, adapting to the thermostat's demands. In cooling mode, with a call for first stage cooling, the compressor operates on one cylinder, connecting the run winding through the upper left contactor to the capacitor and the start winding to line voltage. This results in low discharge pressure and high suction pressure. For second stage cooling, the TS control momentarily shuts off the compressor, then energizes relays R1 and R2 on the TS control board. This de-energizes the upper left contactor and energizes the lower right contactor, connecting the compressor run winding to line voltage and the start winding to the capacitor. The compressor then runs with two cylinders, providing increased cooling capacity. The Y2OUT signal from the relay board ensures the indoor blower operates at high speed. If two consecutive cooling cycles call for second stage cooling, subsequent cooling calls will energize the unit in second stage mode until the second stage operation cycle is less than 15 minutes or 24V to the TS control board is disconnected.
In heating mode, the TS compressor operates similarly to cooling, but without an "O" input from the thermostat, and the reversing valve is not energized. The system functions in heat pump heating mode. The YorkGuard V control and liquid temperature prevent the system from entering defrost mode. The 6K relay on the 6CF interface board plays a crucial role in heating operation. If the YorkGuard V defrost control balance point is set to 45°F, the 6K relay energizes when the liquid temperature drops below 35°F and de-energizes when it rises above 35°F and the ambient temperature is above 42°F for five minutes (and the unit is not in defrost). If the balance point is set to anything other than 45°F, the 6K relay energizes below 45°F and de-energizes above 45°F and an ambient temperature greater than 55°F (and not in defrost). When the 6K relay is de-energized, the TS compressor operates in heating heat pump mode. When the 6K relay is energized, it connects Y1 and Y2 and disconnects Y2OUT from the TS control to the indoor blower (if J1 pin is not in the ON position). In this state, the compressor operates only in second stage, regardless of the thermostat's call, and the indoor blower operates in low air mode, providing discharge air approximately 10°F hotter than normal. For high-speed air, the J1 pin can be moved to the ON position at the interface board, sending the Y2OUT signal back to the indoor blower.
The system incorporates a five-minute anti-short cycle timer on the YorkGuard V to prevent rapid cycling after thermostat changes or power interruptions. This timer can be bypassed by temporarily shorting the test terminals on YorkGuard V for three seconds. A factory-installed jumper on the TS control board bypasses its anti-short cycle timer. The solid-state electronic controlboard optimizes compressor staging based on load requirements, includes a 5-minute anti-short cycle timer, and simplifies troubleshooting with built-in self-diagnostics.
The ETS Stealth series units are designed for durability and efficient operation. The condenser coil is constructed with copper tubing and hardened aluminum fins, protected by a decorative grille. The cabinet is made of powder-painted steel over a pre-painted primer, providing superior corrosion and rust resistance. Special primer formulas and a glossy earth-tone finish resist fading from sunlight, offering one-third greater protection than conventional units.
Compressors are protected against high pressure, and hard start components ensure reliable start-up under adverse conditions. All models include a standard crankcase heat for added protection. The inherent design of the Stealth system and the staging operation of the Twin Single™ compressor provide effective humidity control at the lowest possible operating cost. An optional dehumidification control accessory is available for areas requiring higher humidity control.
The top discharge design blows warm air upwards, away from the structure and landscaping, allowing for compact installation in multi-unit applications. The upward airflow also carries normal operating noise away from living areas. The rigid top panel effectively isolates motor sound, and isolator-mounted compressors with rippled condenser coil fins muffle fan motor and compressor operating sounds, contributing to a low operating sound level.
The units are designed for low maintenance. Long-life, permanently lubricated motor bearings eliminate the need for annual servicing. Easy service access is provided through fully exposed refrigerant connections and a single panel covering the electrical controls, simplifying maintenance. Coil clearing is also made easy. Re-usable service valves are provided on both liquid and vapor sweat connections for ease of evacuating and charging the system.
