The Zenith Entertainment Machine is a direct-view color television designed for home entertainment. It allows users to watch television broadcasts, connect to cable services, and integrate with other A/V devices like VCRs, DVDs, and cable boxes. The device features an "Auto Program" function to automatically find and store available channels, parental control options to restrict programming, and various video and audio adjustments for a personalized viewing experience.

Important Technical Specifications

  • Model and Serial Number: Located on the back of the TV cabinet. Users are advised to record these numbers for future reference.
  • Power Source: Operates on household current, 120-volt 60 Hertz AC. It is not designed to operate on DC Current.
  • Antenna/Cable Jack: A 75 Ohm RF jack is provided for connecting off-air antennas or cable service.
  • Polarized Plug: Equipped with a polarized alternating-current line plug (one blade wider than the other) for safety.

  • Compliance: Complies with all applicable U.S. Federal safety requirements and those of the Canadian Standards Association.

Usage Features

Setup and Hook-Up

The manual provides detailed instructions for various hook-up scenarios:

  • Antenna Only: Connects a 75 Ohm RF cable from an off-air antenna directly to the TV. For 300 Ohm flat wire antennas, a 300 to 75 Ohm adapter is required.
  • Cable Only: Connects a 75 Ohm RF coaxial wire from a cable TV wall jack directly to the TV. If using a cable box, the cable connects to the cable box, and then from the cable box to the TV.
  • Antenna with VCR: Connects the antenna to the VCR's input, and then the VCR's output to the TV's antenna/cable jack using a 75 Ohm RF coaxial wire.
  • Cable and VCR: Connects the cable TV wall jack to the VCR's input, and then the VCR's output to the TV's antenna/cable jack. If a cable box is used, the cable connects to the cable box, then to the VCR, and finally to the TV.
  • Remote Control Setup: Instructions for inserting two AA batteries into the remote control.
  • Power Connection: The TV should be plugged directly into a wall outlet, not a switched outlet.

Basic Operation

  • Auto Program: Automatically scans and stores all available channels in the user's area. This function can be set for "Cable TV" or "Off Air Antenna."
  • Channel Changing: Channels can be changed using the UP/DOWN arrows on the remote or by entering the channel number directly using the number key pad and pressing ENTER. The "FLASHBACK" button returns to the last viewed channel.
  • Volume Control: Volume can be adjusted using the Right/Left arrows. The "MUTE" button silences the TV instantly.
  • On-Screen Menus: The "MENU" button accesses setup and video menus. Front panel buttons can also be used, with "VOLUME" acting as Left/Right adjustment and "CHANNEL" as Up/Down selection.
  • Ch. Add/Del: Allows users to manually add or delete channels from the list that is scrolled through.
  • Clock Set: Sets the current time on the TV, with options for AM or PM.
  • Timer Setup: Configures a sleep timer (from 10 minutes to 4 hours) and automatic ON/OFF times for the TV.
  • Parental Control: Offers various blocking options based on MPAA ratings (G and Above, PG and Above, PG-13 and Above, R and Above, NC-17 and Above, X), Age Block (TV-G and Above, TV-PG and Above, TV-14 and Above, TV-MA, TV-Y and Above, TV-Y7), and Content Block (Dialog, Language, Sex Scenes, Violence, F Violence, No Rating). Users can set specific hours for the feature to be active and create a 4-digit password.
  • Captions/Text: Enables closed captioning or text display. Options include Off, Caption 1-4, and Text 1-4.
  • Language Options: Selects the language for on-screen menus (English, Spanish, or French).
  • Video Menu: Adjusts picture settings such as Contrast, Brightness, Color, Tint, and Sharpness. "Picture Preference" allows choosing between "Custom" (user-defined) or "Preset" (factory-set levels).

Maintenance Features

Cleaning

  • Screen Cleaning: Use a soft cloth dampened with lukewarm water and a little fabric softener or dishwashing detergent. Wring the cloth until almost dry, wipe the screen, and let it air-dry.
  • Cabinet Cleaning: Use a soft cloth with a mild soap solution. Rinse and wipe the cabinet again, then let it air-dry. Avoid "industrial strength" cleaners.
  • Wood Cabinets: Use a quality wood cleaner and polish.

Extended Absence

  • Antenna Disconnection: If using an off-air antenna, disconnect it from the back of the TV before leaving for an extended period.
