Overview

This document is an instruction manual for the Zenith ZRS4584W refrigerator, providing detailed information on its function, technical specifications, usage, and maintenance.

Function Description:

The Zenith ZRS4584W is a refrigerating appliance designed for domestic household use, specifically for the short-term storage of fresh food and drinks, as well as frozen food. It features a larder fridge compartment and a 4-star freezer compartment. The appliance operates by controlling internal temperatures via a thermostat knob, allowing users to adjust settings from 1 (least cold) to 5 (coldest). The larder fridge defrosts automatically, with defrost water collected and evaporated at the back of the appliance. The freezer compartment requires manual defrosting, recommended twice a year or when a frost layer of approximately 7 mm (1/4") has formed.

Important Technical Specifications:

  • Model Identifier: ZRS4584W
  • Energy Class: A (as indicated on the energy label)
  • Refrigerant Gas: R600a (flammable, requiring careful handling to avoid damaging the cooling system)
  • Ambient Temperature Operating Range: +10°C to +32°C (50°F to 90°F). Operation outside this range may affect performance and food storage time.
  • Maximum Freezing Load: 4 kg in any 24 hours (for fresh food).
  • Lighting Source: Equipped with a lighting source of "G" energy class. The bulb/LED is not suitable for household room illumination and should only be replaced by professional repairers.
  • Room Space Requirement: The room where the appliance is installed must not be smaller than 10 cubic meters.
  • Water Dispenser (if applicable): Maximum cold water inlet pressure of 90 psi (6.2 bar). If pressure exceeds 80 psi (5.5 bar), a pressure limiting valve is required. Water temperature operating interval: 0.6°C (33°F) minimum and 38°C (100°F) maximum. Only drinking water should be used.

Usage Features:

  • Temperature Control: A thermostat knob allows adjustment of the fridge temperature from 1 to 5. It is recommended to set the thermostat at 3 initially and monitor the temperature to ensure desired storage. For ambient temperatures above 25°C (77°F), especially in summer, the knob should be turned towards 5. Below 25°C (77°F), a halfway position is suggested.
  • Food Storage Guidelines:
    • Cooked dishes should be stored in airtight covered containers on removable shelves.
    • Fresh wrapped produce, fruits, and vegetables should be cleaned and stored in crisper bins.
    • Raw meat should be wrapped in polythene bags and placed on the lowest shelf, separate from cooked food, and stored for a maximum of two to three days.
    • Bottles, eggs, butter, cheese, and dairy products have designated storage areas on door shelves and trays.
    • Certain fruits and vegetables (pineapples, melon, cucumbers, tomatoes) should be wrapped in polythene bags if kept near 0°C to prevent damage.
    • High-proof alcohol should be stored upright in sealed containers.
    • Frozen food should be wrapped upon purchase and placed in the freezer immediately.
    • Ice cream should be removed from the freezer 10-20 minutes before serving.
  • Door Reversibility: The appliance door can be repositioned to open from the opposite side, requiring specific steps involving unscrewing hinges, removing the door, and repositioning components. Spare plastic parts are supplied for this purpose.
  • Adjustable Feet: Two front feet can be adjusted to ensure the appliance stands upright and is level, reducing vibration and noise.
  • Transportation: The appliance should be transported in a vertical upright position. If horizontal transport is necessary, it must be laid on its right-hand side (when standing in front of the appliance) and allowed to settle for at least 4 hours before operation.
  • Installation: Avoid placing the appliance near heat sources (cookers, radiators) or in direct sunlight. Maintain minimum clearances from cookers (50 mm), radiators (300 mm), and other refrigerators/larder fridges (25 mm). Two plastic wall spacers are supplied to be fitted to the condenser at the back for proper ventilation.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning:
    • Always switch off and unplug the appliance before cleaning.
    • Do not use sharp abrasive instruments, soap, harsh cleaners, detergents, or wax polish.
    • Clean the cabinet with lukewarm water and wipe dry.
    • Clean the interior with a damp cloth wrung out in a solution of one teaspoon of bicarbonate of soda to one pint of water, then wipe dry.
    • Regularly check and clean door seals to ensure they are free from food particles.
    • Clean the condenser at the back of the freezer annually with a vacuum cleaner to remove dust.
  • Defrosting (Larder Fridge): The larder fridge defrosts automatically. Defrost water runs to a collection channel and evaporates from a special container at the back. If the drain tube is blocked by food particles, it can be cleared by pushing the special plastic plunger provided.
  • Defrosting (Freezer Compartment): Manual defrosting is required. Switch off and unplug the appliance. Wrap all food in newspaper and store in a cool place. Containers of warm water can be placed in the freezer to speed up defrosting. Do not use pointed or sharp-edged objects to remove ice.
  • Extended Storage: If the freezer will not be used for a long period, switch it off, remove all food, clean it, and leave the door ajar to prevent mold.
  • Drawer Removal: To remove a drawer, pull it out as far as possible, tilt it upwards, and then pull it out completely.
  • Light Replacement: The lighting source should only be replaced by professional repairers.

Safety Warnings:

  • Keep ventilation openings clear of obstruction.
  • Do not use mechanical devices or other means to accelerate defrosting, other than those recommended by the manufacturer.
  • Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.
  • Do not use electrical appliances inside food storage compartments unless they are of the type recommended by the manufacturer.
