Unsafe to Microwave Items
Below are a list of items that are considered unsafe to microwave and should best be avoided to
prevent personal injury and damage to the microwave drawer.
Item Remarks
Aluminum May cause arcing. Transfer food into a microwave-safe container.
Food carton with metal
handle
May cause arcing. Transfer food into a microwave-safe container.
Metal or metal-trimmed
containers
Metal shields the food from the microwave energy. Metal trims may cause
arcing.
Metal twist ties May cause arcing and could cause a fire in the microwave drawer.
Paper bags May cause a fire in the microwave drawer.
Plastic foam May melt or contaminate contents when exposed to high temperatures.
Wood May dry out and potentially split or crack.
