SYSTEM DESCRIPTION
The 3M™ Versaflo™ S-Series headtops are designed to be used with an
approved Air Delivery Unit (see Reference Leaflet) to provide respiratory
protection. These products meet the requirements of EN12941 (Respiratory
protective devices – Powered filtering devices) and EN14594 (Respiratory
protective devices – Continuous flow compressed air line breathing
apparatus).
Note: When regulators and compressed air supply tubes that are exclusively
marked EN1835 (Respiratory protective devices - Light duty construction
compressed air line breathing apparatus incorporating helmet or hood) are
used with S-Series headtops, the system will only meet the requirements of
EN1835.
Air is fed via a breathing tube from the belt mounted Air Delivery Unit to the
back of the headtop. The air flows over the top of the wearer’s head and
down in front of the face. For the premium head suspension products, the air
flow direction can be adjusted to direct air down the side of the head.
Headtops within the S-Series range can also offer face, hair or shoulder
protection.

Do not use the S -Series headtops in concentrations of contaminant above
10 times the Workplace Exposure Limit (WEL) when used with 3M™
Dustmaster™ Powered Air Turbo.
Do not use for respiratory protection against unknown atmospheric
contaminants or when concentrations of contaminants are unknown or
immediately dangerous to life or health (IDLH).
Do not use in atmospheres containing less than 19.5% oxygen. (3M
definition. Individual countries may apply their own limits on oxygen
deficiency. Seek advice if in doubt).
Do not use these products in oxygen or oxygen-enriched atmospheres.
These products do not supply oxygen.
Only use with the Air Delivery Units, spare parts and accessories listed in the
Reference Leaflet and within the usage conditions given in the Technical
Specification.
Only for use by trained, competent personnel.

Use only with recommended spectacles. Eye protectors against high speed
particles worn over standard ophthalmic spectacles may transmit impacts,
thus creating a hazard to the user. Contact your supplier.
High winds above 2m/s, or very high work rates (where the pressure within
the headtop can become negative) can reduce protection. Adjust equipment
as appropriate or consider an alternative form of respiratory protective
device.
Materials which may come into contact with the wearer's skin are not known
to cause allergic reactions to the majority of individuals.
These products do not contain components made from natural rubber latex.

PREPARATION FOR USE
Check that you have the appropriate size headtop for your head size - see
Table 1 for guidance. Select the headtop that fits most comfortably
depending on your facial size and shape. A size reducing comfort pad may
be required with the premium head suspension to reduce the circumference
around the head or to improve fit on the brow or top of the head - see Table 2
for guidance.
Assembly and Adjustment.
The headtop should be adjusted to give the best face seal and field of vision.
• Remove any protective film from the visor
• S-100, S-300, S-400 and S-500 series
- Adjust the integrated head suspension as shown in Fig 1 .
• S-600, S-700 and S-800 series
- Adjust the premium head suspension as shown in Fig 2.
- If required, fit the size reducing comfort pad as shown in Figs 3 - 6 .
- Remove the standard comfort pad by removing from the attachment points
on the suspension.
- The size reducing comfort pad forms the shape as shown in Fig 3 .
- Hook the two long slots on the comfort pad over the large top hooks on the
suspension as shown in Fig 4 .
- Secure the comfort pad by using the smaller hooks on the suspension as
shown by the arrows in Figs 5 and 6 .
- Insert head suspension into headtop as shown in Fig 7 . With the hood
upside down and the visor facing towards you, insert the premium head
suspension into the hood.
- Pull the air inlet of the head suspension through the opening in the back of
the hood. The fabric must be pulled past the lip of the air inlet (located just
beneath the blue airflow adjustment mechanism) and seated in the groove
just above the airduct sealing ring - see Fig 8.
