jobAid
DESCRIPTION
This Job Aid covers two types of Single Family Unit (SFU) Optical
Network Terminations (ONTs): Outside ONTs (ONTs installed on the
outside of a customer’s residence--see Items 1 to 6 in the table below), and
Indoor ONTs (ONTs installed inside a customer’s residence--see Items 7
to 9 in the table below). This Job Aid supports the ONTs listed in the
following table.
The SFU ONT is part of a Gigabit Passive Optical Network (GPON). The
Total Access 300 Series ONT provides POTS and Ethernet interfaces, and
depending on the model, an RF interface.
To allow for the transmission of downstream and upstream traffic on one
single fiber, different wavelengths are used for each direction.
Downstream traffic uses 1490 nm (digital), while upstream traffic is
carried on 1310 nm. For RF TV distribution, a second downstream
wavelength of 1550 nm is used (video). Minimum and Maximum power
levels for RF Units is -8 dBm and +2 dBm respectively.
NOTE
The ONT in Figure 1 is a Total Access 362R 2nd Generation 2 POTS/2
Ethernet and one RF Return ONT. This typifies ONTs installed in a
Corning Network Interface Device (NID) housing. Figure 2 displays the
front and back of a Total Access 334 Single Family Unit with a UPS
connection. This model typifies ONTs installed inside the customer
premises.
