Two Point A/B Measurement
Full Auto Mode: Fault Locating
1. Select Full Auto mode.
2. Clean and Connect launch cable.
3. Select Test Port: SM or MM.
4. Select Fiber Type.
Measuring Loss on an OTDR Trace
5. Select Launch Cable: AFL (1 km), AFL (500m),
AFL (150 m), None, User.
6. In General Settings: Set Distance Units: m, ft,
kft, km, mi.
7. Press Test key

1. Position the left cursor [A] at the start of
the event.
2. Position the right cursor [B] beyond
the event where the trace returns to a
constant slope.
3. Read the insertion loss (Loss: in dB)
measurement.
An OTDR trace shows relative power vs.
distance. The insertion loss (IL) between any
two points (A to B) on the optical ber link
under test equals the trace level at A minus the
trace level at B.
To measure the end-to-end loss of a link, use a
launch and receive cable and put the [A] cursor
before the rst event in the link and the [B]
