Special safety instructions and warnings
for cabinets with R-290 (propane) refrigerant
WARNING
• Refrigerants R-290 and R-600a belong to safety group A3 pursuant to DIN EN 378-1. The refrigerant used is
shown on the rating plate.
• The refrigerant is highly flammable. In case of leakage, refrigerant can escape and cause an explosive gas/air
mixture. This may subsequently lead to fire and explosion with resulting fire risk. Ignition sources (heat, sparks,
open flames, hot surfaces) should therefore be kept at a distance.
• Liquid refrigerant causes frostbite on the skin. Protect the hands and face from contact with liquid/leaking
refrigerant. Wear safety goggles and protective gloves.
• Do not close vents in the appliance housing (equipment room). If accessories have to be installed, care must be
taken to ensure that no air vents are closed.
• Comply with minimum distances from boundary walls and other equipment, so as not to obstruct the circula-
tion of air. → See Chapter 5 for minimum distances.
• Do not use mechanical devices or other means (e.g. scrapers) to accelerate the defrosting procedure, except
those recommended by the manufacturer.
• Do not damage the refrigerant circuit.
• Do not use electrical appliances (e.g. wet vacuum) inside the refrigerated cabinet, except those of a design
recommended by the manufacturer (explosion protection marking).
• Work on the electrical system and the refrigeration system must be carried out by AHT-authorised persons only
(personnel trained in the handling of flammable refrigerants). Furthermore, opening of the refrigerant circuit
and extraction of the refrigerant may only be performed in well-ventilated rooms or in the open air.
• Before undertaking any maintenance work, the appliance must be taken out of service by disconnecting the
mains plug(s). The appliance must be completely disconnected from the power supply.
• Properly dispose of equipment containing flammable R-290 refrigerant and equipment with insulating foam
(thermal insulation polyurethane foam containing pentane). Inquire at your local authority about the safety-
related and statutory disposal regulations.
AHT cabinets have been designed to ensure they are environmentally friendly and easy to dispose of. Neither the
R-290 refrigerant nor the propellant pentane (for the insulating foam) have the potential to deplete ozone, nor
do they contribute to the greenhouse effect.
