Overview

The Aiphone Market-Com MC-60/4 is a versatile paging and communication system designed for various commercial environments such as retail stores, factories, and warehouses. Its primary function is to facilitate quick location of individuals through paging and enable two-way communication between any station within the system. The system supports up to 60 stations and incorporates four communication channels, along with capabilities for paging and background music.

Function Description

The MC-60/4 system allows users to initiate a page to locate individuals across the facility. Once a page is made, any station can respond, establishing a two-way communication link. The four communication channels provide flexibility, allowing multiple conversations or pages to occur simultaneously without interference. This multi-channel capability is particularly useful in busy environments where different departments or teams might need to communicate independently.

A key feature is the integration of background music. This allows for a more pleasant environment within the facility. During a paging announcement, the system automatically mutes the background music, ensuring that pages are clearly heard. Once the announcement is complete, the music resumes, providing a seamless user experience.

The system supports conference calling for up to three stations, enabling small group discussions. If more than three people join a conference call, the communication volume may be affected, indicating optimal performance with fewer participants.

The MC-60/4 system is designed for indoor use only and is not intended for outdoor installation. It operates on a DC24V power supply, specifically the PS-24N power supply.

Usage Features

The MC-60/4 comes in two main models: the MC-60/4A (wall-mount) and the MC-60/4B (desk-use). Both models offer similar functionality but cater to different installation preferences.

For the MC-60/4A, communication is initiated by lifting the handset. To page, the user presses the "PAGE" button. To select a communication channel, there are four channel selector buttons. Each channel has an associated LED (Red for Ch.1, Green for Ch.2, Yellow for Ch.3, Orange for Ch.4) that illuminates when the channel is occupied, indicating that it is in use. This visual cue helps users select an available channel. When responding to a page, the user selects the channel number requested by the paging person.

The MC-60/4B, designed for desk use, features a terminal box with a 1.5m (5') cord. It also includes channel selector buttons and channel occupied LEDs, functioning similarly to the MC-60/4A in terms of channel selection and indication.

The system uses an easy-to-run 7-conductor cable throughout, wired in blocks of up to 10 stations per block from an adaptor/amplifier. This modular wiring approach simplifies installation and expansion. The MC-A/A adaptor is crucial for connecting blocks of stations and can be built into PG-C amplifiers (PG-20C, PG-50C, PG-100C), which also serve as paging amplifiers. These amplifiers support various speakers, including ceiling speakers (SP-5N) and horn speakers (AH-16TN, AH-32TN), for broadcasting pages and background music.

The system's design incorporates a phone-style coil cord with reinforced jacks for the MC-60/4A, enhancing durability and user comfort. The handset cradle is also designed to be durable, ensuring longevity in commercial settings.

Maintenance Features

The MC-60/4 is designed for straightforward installation and maintenance. The installation guidelines emphasize the importance of proper wiring and avoiding certain environmental conditions that could lead to malfunction. For instance, the equipment should not be mounted in areas with high or extreme cold temperatures, direct sunlight, near temperature-varying equipment, or in places subject to moisture, humidity, dust, oil, or chemicals. It is also crucial to protect the equipment from water or any other liquid.

For power supply, it is recommended to use the specified PS-24N. If a DC power supply with a grounding terminal is used, it should be connected to earth ground. If no grounding terminal is available, installing an SA-1 surge arrester on the power supply line is advised to protect against lightning storms and other weather-related damage.

The internal components of the MC-60/4 system should not be opened by unauthorized personnel; qualified personnel should handle any internal inspections or repairs. Similarly, any products from other manufacturers used with the MC-60/4, such as power supplies or buzzers, must adhere to their manufacturer's specifications and warranty.

Cleaning the MC-60/4 equipment is simple, requiring only a soft cloth dampened with a neutral household cleanser. Abrasive cleaners or cloths should never be used to prevent damage to the unit's finish or components.

The modular design, with stations wired in blocks, simplifies troubleshooting and expansion. If a fault occurs in one block, it is easier to isolate and address without affecting the entire system. The system's maximum wiring distance specifications, which vary by wire gauge, are provided to ensure optimal performance and prevent signal degradation over long runs. The total wiring distance for the entire system should not exceed 5,000 feet (1,500m), regardless of wire size.

The MC-60/4 is rated to operate within a temperature range of 0°C to +40°C (32°F to 104°F), ensuring reliable performance in typical indoor commercial environments.
