Overview

This document describes the Alpine CDE-9845, CDE-9843, and CDE-9841 CD Receivers, which are designed for mobile 12V applications. The CDE-9845 and CDE-9843 models support MP3/WMA playback, while the CDE-9841 plays standard CDs. All models include an FM/AM tuner.

Function Description:

The Alpine CD Receivers offer a range of audio playback and radio tuning functionalities. Users can play standard audio CDs, and with the CDE-9845/CDE-9843 models, MP3 and WMA formatted discs. The radio tuner supports FM and AM bands, with features for automatic and manual station storage. Sound customization options include bass, treble, balance, fader, and subwoofer control. The CDE-9845 and CDE-9843 models also offer visual customization with multicolor illumination and dimmer control.

Usage Features:

  • Power On/Off: Press SOURCE/POWER to turn on/off.
  • Volume Adjustment: Turn Rotary encoder (CDE-9845/CDE-9843) or press A/V (CDE-9841).
  • Mute: Press MUTE/SETUP to lower volume by 20 dB.
  • Detachable Front Panel: Remove by pressing (Release) button. Attach by aligning grooves and pushing until it locks.
  • Initial System Start-Up: Press RESET with a ballpoint pen after first use or battery change.
  • Radio Tuning: Select band (FM1, FM2, AM), then choose tuning mode (DX SEEK, SEEK, OFF). Tune with or I.
  • Manual Station Presets: Select station, then press and hold preset button (1-6) for 2 seconds. Up to 18 stations can be stored.
  • Automatic Memory: Press and hold TUNE/A.ME for 2 seconds to automatically store 6 strong stations.
  • Preset Tuning: Select band, then press preset button (1-6).
  • Station Title Search (CDE-9845 only): Press in Radio mode, turn Rotary encoder to select title, press Rotary encoder to tune.
  • Frequency Search (CDE-9845 only): Press and hold for 2 seconds, turn Rotary encoder to select frequency, press Rotary encoder to tune.
  • CD/MP3/WMA Playback: Insert disc (label side up). Select folder with or (CDE-9845/CDE-9843), then track/file with or . Pause with ►/II. Eject with .
  • Repeat Play: Press 4 () to repeat current track/file. Press again to select OFF or RPT (folder repeat for MP3/WMA).
  • M.I.X. (Random Play): Press 5 (C) to play tracks/files in random sequence.
  • Scanning Programmes: Press 6 (11) to play first 10 seconds of each track/file.
  • Searching CD Text (CDE-9845/CDE-9843 only): Press during play, turn Rotary encoder to select track, press Rotary encoder to play.
  • File/Folder Name Search (MP3/WMA, CDE-9845/CDE-9843 only): Press to select File Name Search or Folder Name Search. Use or to select folder, then Rotary encoder to select file.
  • Quick Search (CDE-9845/CDE-9843 only): Press and hold for 2 seconds, turn Rotary encoder to select track/file.
  • Sound Setting: Press Rotary encoder (CDE-9845/CDE-9843) or MODE (CDE-9841) to select BASS, TREBLE, SUBWOOFER, BALANCE, FADER, DEFEAT. Adjust with Rotary encoder or A/V.
  • Bass Control: Press BASS C. (CDE-9845/CDE-9843) or CENTER f. (CDE-9841). Adjust center frequency with or , band width with BAND, and level with Rotary encoder or A/V.
  • Treble Control: Press TREBLE C. (CDE-9845/CDE-9843) or CENTER f. (CDE-9841). Adjust center frequency with or , and level with Rotary encoder or A/V.
  • BBE Mode (CDE-9845 only): Press SOURCE/POWER, hold Rotary encoder for 2 seconds, press Rotary encoder to set ON, turn Rotary encoder to select level (BBE1-3) or OFF.
  • Loudness (CDE-9843/CDE-9841 only): Press and hold Rotary encoder (CDE-9843) or MODE (CDE-9841) for 2 seconds to activate/deactivate.
  • Displaying Title/Text: Press TITLE to cycle through display modes (Frequency, Clock, Title for Radio; Track No./Elapsed Time, Track No./Clock, Text (Disc Name), Text (Track Name), Title for CD; Folder No./File No./Elapsed Time, Folder No./File No./Clock, Folder Name, File Name, Artist Name, Album Name, Track Name, Frame for MP3/WMA).
  • Titling Discs/Radio Stations: Press TITLE, select Title Display, hold TITLE for 2 seconds. Turn Rotary encoder or A/V to select characters, press Rotary encoder or MODE to store. Press TITLE to record.
  • Erasing Disc Title/Radio Station Title: Press TITLE, select Title Display, hold TITLE for 2 seconds. Press and hold /II for 2 seconds.
  • Displaying Time: Press TITLE repeatedly until time is displayed.
  • Setting Time: In Clock priority mode, hold TITLE for 2 seconds. Turn Rotary encoder or A/V to adjust hours, press Rotary encoder or MODE. Turn Rotary encoder or A/V to adjust minutes, press Rotary encoder or MODE.
  • SETUP Menu: Press and hold MUTE/SETUP for 2 seconds. Use or to select menu item, BAND to change setting, MUTE/SETUP to exit.
  • Multicolor Illumination (CDE-9845 only): In SETUP, select ILLUMI. Choose BLUE, GREEN, AMBER, or RED.
  • Dimmer Control (CDE-9845/CDE-9843 only): In SETUP, select DIMMER. Choose AUTO or MANU.
  • Scroll Type Setting (CDE-9845/CDE-9843 only): In SETUP, select SCR TYPE. Choose TYPE1 or TYPE2.
  • Scroll Setting (CDE-9845/CDE-9843 only): In SETUP, select SCROLL. Choose AUTO or MANU.
  • Demonstration (CDE-9845 only): In SETUP, select DEMO. Choose ON or OFF.
  • MP3/WMA Playback Data (CDE-9845/CDE-9843 only): In SETUP, select CDDA/MP3. Choose CDDA or CDDA/MP3.
  • AUX Mode (CDE-9845 only): In SETUP, select AUX IN. Choose ON or OFF. Change AUX name with K or .
  • External Amplifier Connection: In SETUP, select POWER IC (CDE-9845) or PWR (CDE-9843/CDE-9841). Choose ON or OFF.

Maintenance Features:

  • Product Cleaning: Use a soft dry cloth. For severe stains, dampen cloth with water only.
  • Moisture Condensation: If CD playback wavers, remove disc and wait about an hour for moisture to evaporate.
  • Damaged Disc: Do not play cracked, warped, or damaged discs.
  • Service: Do not attempt to repair the unit yourself. Return it to an authorized Alpine dealer or service center.
  • Disc Handling: Do not drop, touch surface, expose to direct sunlight, affix stickers/labels, or write on discs. Clean with a soft cloth from center to outer edge.
  • Disc Accessories: Avoid using accessories that alter disc thickness/diameter.
  • Installation Location: Avoid direct sun/heat, high humidity/water, excessive dust, excessive vibrations.
  • Troubleshooting: If problems occur, turn power off/on. If still not functioning, review checklist or consult Alpine dealer.
  • Fuse Replacement: Use correct ampere rating when replacing fuses.
  • Wiring: Ensure proper connections, disconnect battery before wiring, avoid tangling cables, do not splice electrical cables, take precautions when drilling holes, do not use brake/steering system bolts for ground, avoid installation locations that hinder vehicle operation.
  • Noise Prevention: Route leads away from car harness, keep battery leads separate, securely ground to chassis, use optional noise suppressors if needed.
