Overview

The AMP Research BedStep is a foot-operated, retractable step designed to provide easier access to a truck's cargo bed. It is specifically designed for the Toyota Tundra, model year 2016. The product is identified by AMP Part #75316-01A.

Function Description:

The BedStep deploys and retracts with a simple nudge of the foot. To deploy, the user presses down on the forward outside corner of the step pad with their left foot. To retract, the user gently kicks the underside of the step pad. This mechanism allows for quick and convenient access to the truck bed, enhancing utility and safety by providing a stable stepping surface. The step is intended to be used with appropriate handholds for stability when stepping up or down from the cargo bed.

Installation Overview:

The installation process involves several steps, beginning with securing the linkage in a vice and tightening bolts without torquing, allowing the steel bracket to rotate freely. The fender brace is removed using a 10mm socket or wrench. A mounting bracket is then installed using factory fasteners and torqued to 90 ft-lbs / 125 Nm. The harness retainer clip is removed, and the harness is reattached to the bracket using an M6 nut and tightened to 12 ft-lbs. The rear support bracket is attached to the bed panel and main bracket, with bolts torqued to 16 ft-lbs. Similarly, the fender support bracket is attached to the main bracket using a supplied M6 nut and bolt, tightened to 12 ft-lbs. The step pad is aligned with the bumper, and its bolts are tightened: 10mm bolts to 33 ft-lbs / 44 Nm, and the 8mm bolt to 16 ft-lbs. It is crucial to follow all torque specifications to ensure proper and safe installation. Overtightening the step pad bolts may cause damage.

Usage Features:

  • Foot-Operated Deployment: Press down on the forward outside corner of the step pad with the left foot.
  • Foot-Operated Retraction: Gently kick the underside of the step pad.
  • Safety Precaution: Always use appropriate handholds when stepping up or down from the truck's cargo bed.
  • Storage: The BedStep should always be stowed in the retracted position when driving to prevent potential damage or interference.

Maintenance Features:

  • Cleaning: The step pad surface and linkage arms can be cleaned with mild soap and water using a soft brush or sponge. This helps to dislodge any mud, dirt, or accumulated road grime. After cleaning, rinse thoroughly with fresh water.
  • Avoidance of Lubricants: To prevent slipping, avoid applying waxes, lubricants, or protectants like Armor All® to the step surface.
