Overview

The Angelcare AC527 Baby Movement Monitor with Video is a personal care product designed to monitor the movement of healthy babies, providing parents and caregivers with peace of mind. It is important to note that this product is not intended to prevent Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (SIDS), diagnose, treat, mitigate, cure, or prevent any disease or condition, nor is it a substitute for responsible parental care.

The monitor system consists of a Nursery Unit (baby unit), a Parent Unit (receiver), and a Sensor Pad. The Nursery Unit is equipped with a camera lens, microphone, and speaker, allowing for video and audio monitoring of the baby. It also features a temperature indicator to help maintain a comfortable environment for the baby. The Parent Unit, a portable receiver, displays the video feed, allows for two-way talk-back, and provides various alerts and settings. The Sensor Pad, placed under the baby's mattress, detects subtle movements on the mattress surface.

Function Description:

The primary function of the Angelcare AC527 is to monitor a baby's movement and provide alerts if no movement is detected for a specified period. The Sensor Pad is designed to detect subtle baby movements on the surface of the mattress. If no movement is detected for 20 seconds, an alarm will sound from both the Nursery Unit and the Parent Unit. This movement detection feature can be paused, for example, when the baby is removed from the cot for feeding or comforting, and reactivated when the baby is back in the cot. For older babies, the movement detection can be turned off, allowing the monitor to be used for video only.

In addition to movement monitoring, the device offers video and audio surveillance. The Nursery Unit transmits video and audio to the Parent Unit, allowing parents to see and hear their baby. The Parent Unit includes a talk-back feature, enabling parents to speak to their baby remotely. The monitor also includes a temperature indicator on the Nursery Unit, with the Parent Unit displaying the temperature and offering alerts if the temperature goes too hot or too cold, based on user-defined settings.

The monitor utilizes public airwaves for signal transmission. The Parent Unit may pick up signals or interference from other nursery monitors in the area, and similarly, the monitor's signals might be picked up by other households. To ensure privacy, it is recommended to turn off both units when not in use.

Usage Features:

Setting Up the Parent Unit:

Before first use, the Parent Unit's rechargeable Li-Ion battery needs to be charged for 8 hours. Regular charging time is 4 hours. The Parent Unit can be powered on/off and put into sleep mode. It features a movement indicator (TIC function), power indicator, visual sound indicator, microphone, and speaker. Navigation buttons allow users to access the main menu, zoom and pan the video feed, adjust screen brightness, and switch view modes if multiple Nursery Units are connected. Volume controls are available for adjusting audio levels.

Setting Up the Sensor Pad:

The Sensor Pad requires a CR2450 battery. It is placed under the mattress, with the Angelcare logo facing up, approximately in the center of the mattress. If the cot does not have a solid, stationary, completely flat, firm surface, a hardboard support (at least 30 x 30 cm and 6 mm thick) should be placed between the cot base and the Sensor Pad to ensure correct operation. The Sensor Pad works with standard cot sprung and foam mattresses but is not suitable for memory foam, hollow frame construction mattresses, or water beds. It is not recommended for use above 24 months of age.

Setting Up the Nursery Unit:

The Nursery Unit can be wall-mounted or placed on a tabletop. It should be positioned at least 1 meter from the cot to prevent interference and ensure proper ventilation. The Nursery Unit includes a speaker, microphone, camera lens, temperature indicator, and a micro USB port. It also has a pause sensor pad/pairing button and a power ON/OFF button. A magnet is integrated for tabletop stand and wall mount.

Turning On the Monitor:

The Nursery Unit and Parent Unit come pre-paired. Each time the Nursery Unit is powered on, its internal thermometer will calibrate for approximately 30 minutes to ensure accuracy.

Testing the Sensor Pad:

After setup, it is crucial to test the Sensor Pad. This involves placing the Sensor Pad and mattress, switching on both units, and lightly patting a corner of the mattress twice. If movement is detected, a TIC sound will be heard every 5 seconds, and the Parent Unit will flash green. If no movement is detected after 20 seconds, an alarm will sound. Sensitivity settings can be adjusted to prevent false alarms from other vibrations or movements in the room.

The Parent Unit's main menu allows users to confirm settings, activate/deactivate movement sensor pad, enable/disable Tic sound (a sound every 5 seconds when movement is detected), activate/deactivate VOX (Sound Activated) function, set up sleep mode, adjust temperature settings, and access general settings.

Temperature Settings:

Users can set warmer and colder temperature alarms, choose between Celsius or Fahrenheit display, activate the temperature alarm, and activate the Nursery Unit's temperature color code display (white for normal, red for too hot, blue for too cold).

General Settings:

This menu allows users to activate the Nursery Unit display, set VOX sensitivity (4 levels, with level 4 being the most sensitive), adjust Sensor Pad sensitivity, set Nursery Unit speaker volume, and access the pairing menu.

Pairing Menu:

The pairing menu displays the status of Nursery Units and Sensor Pads (connected/paired, add, or remove). It provides visual cues during the pairing process (blue for linking, green for successful, red for failed).

Alerts Icons:

The Parent Unit displays various alert icons for:

  • Sensor Pad alert (no movement detected for 20 seconds)
  • Sensor Pad paused
  • Sensor Pad lost link
  • Sensor Pad low battery
  • Parent Unit out-of-range
  • Temperature too hot
  • Temperature too cold

Adding Accessories:

The Angelcare monitor allows for the addition of an extra Nursery Unit and Sensor Pad. When using two Nursery Units, audio will only be heard from one at a time, indicated by a speaker icon on the screen. If two Sensor Pads are used with one monitor, it is recommended that each is in a separate room.

Maintenance Features:

Rechargeable Battery Care:

The Parent Unit's rechargeable Li-Ion battery should be fully charged for 8 hours before first use. To maximize battery life, it is recommended to periodically fully discharge the battery. The Parent Unit should be turned OFF when not in use.

Troubleshooting:

The manual provides guidance for common issues:

  • No Sound Transmitted: Check volume levels on both units and ensure they are set appropriately. Try moving the Parent Unit closer to the Nursery Unit.
  • Weak Reception: Bring units closer, change their position, place them on a flat surface away from the baby's reach, and recharge the Parent Unit.
  • Static, Distortion, Interferences: Rotate the Parent Unit or move it away from sources of interference (other monitors, wireless phones, walkie-talkies).
  • Feedback (Loud Noises): Move units further apart (at least 3 meters) and decrease volume on the Parent Unit.
  • Parent Unit Screen Black (Off): Turn the Parent Unit back on by holding the power ON/OFF button for 2 seconds and recharge the Parent Unit.
  • Movement Sensor Pad - No Alarm: This can be caused by other sources of vibration or movement. Refer to warnings 3 to 11 and re-test the Sensor Pad.
  • Movement Sensor Pad - False Alarms: Replace the Sensor Pad battery (CR2450). Ensure the Nursery Unit is OFF when the baby is removed from the cot. Verify no bedding is between the mattress and Sensor Pad, and the Sensor Pad is placed properly on a flat, firm surface with the printed side facing up. Adjust sensitivity if needed.
  • Checking Parent Unit Battery: Unplug the adaptor from the Parent Unit and check the battery level indicator.

Loss of Connectivity:

Instructions are provided for re-pairing the Nursery Unit with the Parent Unit, and the Sensor Pad with the Nursery Unit, should connectivity be lost. This involves navigating the Parent Unit's menu to the pairing options and following on-screen prompts.

Cleaning:

All units should be disconnected before cleaning. No part of the monitor should be immersed in water. Clean only with a dry cloth.

General Safety and Warnings:

The manual emphasizes several warnings, including the serious strangulation risk from cords, advising to keep Nursery Unit and adaptor cords out of reach of children (more than 3 feet or 1 meter away). Extension cords should never be used with adaptors, and only provided adaptors should be used. The product is not a toy and children should not play with it. It is crucial to keep the user's guide for future reference and carefully read all warnings and safety instructions. Failure to follow these instructions could result in serious injury, death, or damage to the product.
