or an equivalent means.
Exception No. 1: Bearings, laminations, other parts of iron or steel such as washers and screws, need not

11 Supply Connections
11.1 Permanently-connected converters or inverters
11.1.1 General
11.1.1.1 A converter or inverter intended for permanent connection to the source of supply shall have

11.1.1.1 effective April 13, 1993
11.1.1.2 A knockout in a sheet-metal enclosure shall be reliably secured and shall be removable without
undue deformation of the enclosure.
11.1.1.3 A knockout shall be surrounded by a flat surface adequate for seating of a conduit bushing or
locknut of the appropriate size and shall be located so that installation of a bushing at any knockout likely
to be used during installation will not result in spacing between an uninsulated live part and the bushing
to be less than that specified in Spacings, Section 28.
11.1.1.3 revised October 15, 2004
11.1.1.3.1 In measuring a spacing between an uninsulated live part and a bushing installed in a knockout
as mentioned in 11.1.1.3, it is to be assumed that a bushing having the dimensions specified in Table 11.1
is in place, in conjunction with a single locknut installed on the outside of the enclosure.
11.1.1.3.1 added October 15, 2004
