7.7 Forced landing
If to continue the flight is more dangerous than landing a forced landing is to be made. If
a field prepared for WSC landings or an airport can be reached the forced landing can be
carried out according to normal procedures. When a decision to land is to be made in a
point from which no airport can be reached the pilot is to follow the procedure prescribed
for normal landing, that is:
- Select the point of the intended touch down in flight,
- Fly over this point with optimum gliding speed.
- Loose height along a school circuit; approach the point, while watch the point and its
environment for obstructions not discovered yet.
- Make a normal landing with a touch down in the point, supposing a rough terrain.
Reach the point completely flared out.
- Stop rolling and switch the engine off as fast as possible.
If the touch down is to be made on vegetation flare out on the top of it.
NOTE
If an obstruction endangering the touch down has been discovered improvise and follow a
new touch down procedure witch causes the least damages. Analyzing of these
situations cannot be omitted from the training of WSC pilots
7.8 Interrupted landing
If a moving obstruction is discovered on the roll out path landing is to be interrupted. Give
gas slowly while taking care about not to loose more speed, speed up above the ground,
prepare and fly another school circuit and repeat the landing.
7.9 BRS activation
If the WSC aircraft has got so seriously damaged (e.g. a complete loss of control
occurred) that a safe emergency landing cannot be carried out the activation of the BRS
system is to be done (if the aircraft disposes of one). To do that
- stop the motor,
- if possible decrease the speed to minimum,
- activate the device,
- get prepared to the shock of the opening canopy and the crash onto the ground.
WARNING
Forgetting to remove the safety pin of the BRS before take off makes the system non
usable.
