When Cranking Health is above 50%, the (Pass) icon illuminates. Continue to use the battery.
Charging System Test
(AA1000)
After the Cranking Health Test is performed (engine started), the tester monitors the electrical system for indications of
charging system faults. The tester monitors voltage and measures voltage ripple to determine alternator function.
Charging system test results are indicated on the CH screen using the following icons.
– Alternator Pass, voltage and ripple OK
When the alternator is operating at the correct voltage and the diode ripple is within limits, the [alt pass icon] icon
illuminates.
– Alternator Fail, not working
When the alternator is not producing adequate voltage, or if the alternator ripple is out of limits, indicating a diode
failure, the alternator failure indicator illuminates.
Note: On some vehicles, the alternator output is managed by a control system. The control system may not activate
immediately after engine start. If alternator output is not apparent after engine start, turn on some accessory loads (air
conditioning, cabin fan, headlights) and monitor the alternator icon after one minute.
- Alternator Undercharge
If the alternator output is below 13.2, the (Undercharge) icon illuminates. The alternator is not producing sufficient
current or voltage to charge the battery.
- Alternator Overcharge
If the alternator output is above 15.2V, the overcharge icon illuminates. The voltage regulator in the alternator should be
tested. Chronic overcharge of the battery can cause premature battery failure.
Reviewing Results
All test results may be reviewed (or printed/saved) until the analyzer is disconnected from the battery. Press the ‘enter’
button to move to another test results screen. Use [>] or [<] to view different results within a test screen.
To print or save a test report (with connected printer/memory module) press and hold [enter/print] for 2 seconds (until
beep).
Each test is distinct and analyzes a different aspect of the battery and starting system. It is not uncommon for the
Battery Life test to indicate a battery failure and the Cranking Health test to pass the battery. When testing starting
