Transferring the Patient from a Wheelchair
• Make sure to apply the wheelchair brakes.
• Help or encourage the patient to achieve the standing position.
• The patient’s knees should stay in contact with the kneepad, and the patient should sit back on the seat
halves during the transfer.

1) Have the patient hold the crossbar
and
use it to stand up.
3) Ask the patient to sit.
2) Pivot the two seat halves down.
4) Release the brakes and proceed with
the transfer.
