Do you have a question about the Aspes APV1201 and is the answer not in the manual?

Overview

This document is an instruction manual for Aspes cooktops, specifically models APV1201, APV2303, and API2300I. It covers safety warnings, installation, operation, maintenance, troubleshooting, and technical specifications.

Function Description

These are electric cooktops designed for household cooking. They utilize either ceramic or induction heating technology, depending on the model. Induction cooktops generate heat directly in the pan through electromagnetic vibrations, making them efficient and economical. Ceramic cooktops use heating elements that warm the glass surface, which then transfers heat to the cookware.

The cooktops feature touch controls that respond to the ball of a finger. A beep confirms each touch. The controls must be kept clean and dry for proper operation.

General Operation

  • Start Cooking: Touch the ON/OFF key for one second. The display will show "-" or "--", indicating standby mode. Place a suitable pan on the desired cooking zone, ensure the pan bottom and cooking zone are clean and dry. Touch the heating zone selection control, and its indicator will flash. Select the power level using the MINUS or PLUS keys. If no heat setting is chosen within 1 minute, the hob automatically switches off.
  • Finish Cooking: To turn off a cooking zone, touch its selection control, then touch the MINUS key to set it to "0". To turn off the entire cooktop, touch the ON/OFF control.
  • Hot Surface Indicator: An "H" will display for hot cooking zones, disappearing when the surface cools to a safe temperature. This can also be used as an energy-saving function to heat further pans on a still-hot hotplate.
  • Automatic Shut Down: As a safety feature, the hob will automatically shut down if left unattended for a period, with default working times varying by power level (e.g., 8 hours for levels 1-3, 2 hours for levels 7-9). If a pot is removed, the hob stops heating immediately and switches off after 2 minutes.

Induction Hob Specific Features

  • Boost Function: Select a zone, then touch the BOOST key (7). The zone indicator will show "P", and the power will reach maximum. This function can be used in any cooking zone and returns to its original setting after 5 minutes. To cancel, select the zone in Booster mode, touch the MINUS key (2), and set the desired level.
  • Small Articles Detection: If an unsuitable size, non-magnetic pan, or small metallic item (knife, fork, key) is left on an induction hob, it will automatically go into standby in 1 minute. The fan will continue to cool the hob for another minute.

Ceramic Hob Specific Features

  • Extended Zone Control: If equipped, an extendable zone can be used in two modes:
    • A (Center zone): Only the first heating unit is on.
    • B (Extended zone): Both first and second heating circuits are on. To activate the outer zone, select the cooking zone, then touch the extendable zone key (7). The indicator display will show "=". To cancel, press the extendable zone key (7) to turn off the second heating circuit, then select the desired power level.

Touch timer key again, and the tens digit flashes. Set desired dozens of minutes. A red dot next to the power level indicator illuminates, showing the zone is selected. When the timer expires, the corresponding cooking zone switches off automatically. Other zones continue operating. For multiple zones, decimal dots of relevant zones are on, and the minute display shows the minimum timer. The dot of the corresponding zone flashes.
    • Cancel Timer: Touch the heating zone selection control (4) for the zone with the timer. Touch the timer control (6), and the indicator flashes. Touch the MINUS key (2) to set the timer to "00", cancelling it.

Cookware Selection

  • Induction Cooktops: Only use cookware with a base suitable for induction cooking (look for the induction symbol). A magnet test can confirm suitability (magnet should be attracted to the pan base). If no magnet is available, put water in the pan and check if the display flashes and the water heats. Unsuitable materials include pure stainless steel, aluminum or copper without a magnetic base, glass, wood, porcelain, ceramic, and earthenware.
  • General: Cookware should have a smooth, flat base and match the size of the cooking zone. Using a pot slightly wider than the zone maximizes efficiency. Pots less than 140mm may not be detected. Always center the pan on the cooking zone. Do not use cookware with jagged edges or a curved base. Always lift pans; do not slide them to avoid scratching the glass.

Cooking Tips

  • Reduce temperature setting once food boils.
  • Use a lid to reduce cooking times and save energy.
  • Minimize liquid or fat to reduce cooking times.
  • Start cooking on a high setting, then reduce once food is heated through.

Maintenance Features

Cleaning

  • Everyday Soiling (fingerprints, marks, non-sugary spills): Switch off the cooktop. Apply a cooktop cleaner while the glass is warm (not hot). Rinse and wipe dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Switch the power back on. Avoid heavy-duty scourers or harsh cleaning agents. Never leave cleaning residue.
  • Boilovers, Melts, Hot Sugary Spills: Immediately remove with a fish slice, palette knife, or razor blade scraper (suitable for glass cooktops), being careful of hot surfaces. Switch off power at the wall. Hold the blade at a 30° angle and scrape the soiling to a cool area. Clean up with a dishcloth or paper towel. Follow steps for everyday soiling. Remove stains as soon as possible to prevent permanent damage. Be aware of the razor-sharp blade of a scraper.
  • Spillovers on Touch Controls: Switch off the cooktop. Soak up the spill. Wipe the control area with a clean damp sponge and cloth. Wipe the area completely dry. Switch the power back on. The cooktop may beep and turn itself off if there is liquid on the controls.
  • General: Do not use scourers or harsh abrasive cleaning agents on induction glass. A steam cleaner is not to be used.

Installation

  • Work Surface: Cut the work surface according to provided dimensions. A minimum of 5cm space around the hole and a work surface thickness of at least 30mm are required. Use heat-resistant and insulated material.
  • Ventilation: Ensure the hob is well ventilated, and air inlet/outlet are not blocked. A minimum safety distance of 3mm between the hob sides and inner worktop surfaces, and 760mm between the hotplate and cupboard above, must be maintained. A wooden insert, fixed by screws, at a minimum distance of 50mm from the bottom of the hob is necessary to prevent accidental touch with the overheating bottom or electric shock.
  • Pre-Installation Checks: Work surface must be square, level, heat-resistant, and insulated. If installed above an oven, the oven must have a cooling fan. Installation must comply with all clearance requirements and regulations. A suitable isolating switch providing full disconnection from mains power supply (3mm air gap contact separation in all poles) must be incorporated, accessible to the customer. Consult local building authorities if in doubt. Use heat-resistant and easy-to-clean finishes for surrounding wall surfaces.
  • Post-Installation Checks: Power supply cable must not be accessible through cupboard doors/drawers. Adequate fresh air flow to the hob base. A thermal protection barrier below the hob if installed above a drawer/cupboard. Isolating switch must be accessible.
  • Fixing Brackets: Place the unit on a stable, smooth surface. Fix the hob to the work surface by screwing 2 brackets to the bottom of the hob, adjusting position for table top thickness.
  • Electrical Connection: Must be done by a qualified person. Check domestic wiring system suitability, voltage matching rating plate, and cable section capacity. Do not use adapters, reducers, or branching devices. Power supply cable must not touch hot parts and temperature must not exceed 75°C. An omnipolar circuit-breaker with a minimum 3mm opening between contacts must be installed if connecting directly to mains. Installer must ensure correct electrical connection and compliance with safety regulations. Cable must not be bent or compressed, and checked/replaced by authorized technicians only. Bottom surface and power cord must not be accessible after installation.
  • Placement Restrictions: Do not install directly above a dishwasher, fridge, freezer, washing machine, or clothes dryer due to humidity. The hotplate must be installed to ensure good heat radiation. Sandwich layer and adhesive must be heat-resistant.
