Function Description
The AstralPool CTX, XP, XF, and E Series Pumps are designed for use with swimming pools, spas, and hot tubs. Their primary function is to circulate water through the pool's filtration system and other associated equipment such as salt chlorinators, in-floor cleaning systems, and heating systems. Different series within the product line are tailored for specific applications:
- CTX-Series Pumps: These pumps provide high head pressure, making them suitable for moving water through pool filters, salt chlorinators, in-floor cleaning systems, or multi-jet spas. They are designed to be energy-efficient and feature a large hair and lint pot for infrequent cleaning.
- XP-Series Pumps: Similar to CTX-Series, XP pumps offer high head pressure and energy-efficient operation, running cool and quiet. They also include a large hair and lint pot, reducing the frequency of cleaning.
- XF-Series Pumps: Designed for flooded suction applications, XF models do not require a hair and lint pot. Smaller horsepower XF pumps are ideal for low-flow applications like booster pumps, solar pumps, above-ground pool pumps, or heating system circulating pumps. Larger horsepower XF models are suitable for high-flow demands such as swim jets or multi-jet spas.

Usage Features

- Rapid Priming: Features a rapid-priming diffuser to quickly correct loss of water flow.
- Easy Maintenance Access: Large capacity basket with an easily removed lid for quick and easy disassembly for servicing.
- Installation Flexibility: Can be installed within 30 cm above water level, but not more than 152 cm above. If installed below water level, check valves are required on suction and return lines to prevent backflow.
- Union Fittings: Two sets of union fittings (union nuts, union tails, and O-rings) are included for simplified installation and service, minimizing leaks at threaded adapters.
- Air Lock Prevention: Plumbing guidelines emphasize avoiding air locks by using sweep elbows for 90-degree joints and ensuring proper pipe sizing.
- Pressure Testing: Detailed instructions for pressure testing the system with water (not compressed air) to a maximum of 35 PSI, ensuring all air is purged to prevent injury or property damage.

Maintenance Features
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the pumps:
- Routine Basket Cleaning: The lint basket should be inspected and emptied regularly. A blocked basket or suction pipe can lead to pump failure and meltdown.
- Lid Seal Maintenance: The lid O-ring should be cleaned and lubricated with suitable waterproof grease to ensure a positive, airtight seal. The lid should be hand-tightened only, without tools, to prevent damage.
- Motor Ventilation: Clear passage for cooling airflow to the pump motor must be maintained to prevent overheating, which can void the warranty.
- Winterization: Instructions are provided for draining all water from the pump and system equipment to protect against freezing temperatures, which can cause severe damage and void the warranty. Antifreeze solutions are generally not recommended for pool/spa systems, with propylene glycol being the only exception.
- Electrical Disconnection: For winterization or major maintenance, AstralPool recommends that a qualified service technician or electrician properly disconnect the electrical wiring.
- Chemical Balance: Maintaining good chemical balance in the pool water is essential. Avoid adding pool salt, chlorine, acid, or other chemicals directly to the skimmer, as this can damage the pump and void the warranty.
- Sand/Grit Protection: Prevent sand or grit from continuously passing through the pump by using a filter sock in the lint basket if vacuuming sand.
- Insect Control: Regular spraying of surface insecticide on equipment enclosures is recommended every three months to prevent ant and insect ingress, as warm, dry environments can attract them.
- Troubleshooting Guide: A comprehensive troubleshooting table is provided for common issues such as noisy/humming pump, pump not running, leaks, and priming problems, along with possible causes and solutions. This includes checking for debris, O-ring condition, and proper installation.
