Overview

The ASUS VG236 Series LCD Monitor is a widescreen display designed to provide an enhanced viewing experience, offering crisper, broader, and brighter visuals. This user guide outlines the monitor's features, setup, and maintenance to help users maximize their experience.

Function Description

The ASUS VG236 Series LCD Monitor serves as a primary display unit for computers, capable of rendering high-quality images and supporting advanced visual technologies. It is particularly noted for its 3D Vision readiness, allowing users to experience stereoscopic 3D virtual effects when paired with compatible hardware. The monitor supports various input signals, including DVI, HDMI, and YPbPr, making it versatile for different computer setups and multimedia devices. Its core function is to translate digital signals from a computer or other video source into a visual display, offering a range of adjustments to optimize the image for different content types and user preferences.

Usage Features

The monitor is designed with user convenience in mind, offering several features for adjustment and customization.

Physical Adjustments:

The VG236 Series monitor provides ergonomic flexibility to ensure optimal viewing comfort. Users can tilt the monitor from -5° to 15°, allowing for a comfortable vertical viewing angle. Horizontal adjustment is also possible with a swivel range of 150° from left to right, enabling easy sharing of the screen or repositioning without moving the entire base. Additionally, the monitor's height can be adjusted by approximately 100mm, catering to different desk setups and user heights. For wall mounting, the monitor's detachable arm/stand is VESA compliant (100mm x 100mm), allowing it to be mounted on a compatible bracket (purchased separately). This feature requires careful detachment of the original stand by lowering the monitor to its lowest height, securing the height adjustment lock, and then removing two screws from the VESA cover.

Connectivity:

The rear of the LCD monitor features several ports for connecting to various devices:

  • AC-IN port: For power input.
  • HDMI-IN port: For high-definition multimedia input.
  • DVI port (support NVIDIA® 3D Vision™): This dual-link DVI port is crucial for enabling the 3D feature and connecting to compatible graphics cards.
  • YPbPr port: For component video input.

To utilize the 3D feature, it is essential to connect the monitor to a computer using the bundled Dual-link DVI cable and ensure the computer has a 3D Vision compatible graphics card. The 3D feature is not supported via HDMI or YPbPr connections.

On-Screen Display (OSD) Menu:

The OSD menu provides extensive control over the monitor's settings, accessible via buttons located on the front panel.

  • Splendid™ Video Intelligence Technology: This hotkey allows users to switch between five video preset modes: Game Mode, Night View Mode, Scenery Mode, Standard Mode, and Theater Mode. Each mode is optimized for specific content types. For instance, Scenery Mode is best for photo display, Standard Mode for document editing, Theater Mode for movies, Game Mode for gaming, and Night View Mode for dark-scene content. In Standard Mode, Saturation and ASCR functions are not configurable, while in other modes, the sRGB function is not configurable.
  • Image Settings: This function allows adjustment of Brightness, Contrast, ASCR (ASUS Smart Contrast Ratio), Trace Free, Sharpness, and Saturation. Brightness and Contrast have dedicated hotkeys for quick adjustment. Trace Free technology speeds up response time, enhancing motion clarity.
  • Color Settings: Users can select from various color modes, including Cool, Normal, Warm, sRGB, and User Mode. Skin Tone can also be adjusted to Reddish, Natural, or Yellowish. In User Mode, R (Red), G (Green), and B (Blue) colors are individually configurable.
  • Input Select: This function enables switching between DVI, HDMI, and YPbPr input sources.
  • System Setup: This menu offers advanced system adjustments, including:
    • Splendid Demo Mode: Activates a demonstration of the Splendid modes.
    • Aspect Control: Adjusts the aspect ratio to Full, 4:3, or OverScan (available for HDMI and YPbPr modes only).
    • OSD Setup: Configures the OSD's horizontal (H-Position) and vertical (V-Position) placement, transparency, and timeout duration (10 to 120 seconds).
    • Language: Provides a selection of eleven languages, including English, German, Italian, French, Dutch, Spanish, Russian, Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese, Japanese, and Korean.
    • Information: Displays monitor information.
    • All Reset: Reverts all settings to their preset modes.

3D Virtual Effects:

The ASUS VG236 is a 3D Vision ready LCD monitor, supporting PC timing up to 1920x1080@120Hz. To experience full stereoscopic 3D, users need an NVIDIA® 3D Vision™ kit (shutter glasses, IR emitter), a compatible NVIDIA-GPU graphics card, and a computer running Microsoft® Windows® Vista or Windows® 7. When 3D function is activated, Splendid, Image, and Color adjustment functions are temporarily disabled for optimal video performance.

Power Indicator:

The power indicator light shows the monitor's status: Blue for ON, Amber for Standby mode, and OFF when the monitor is off.

Maintenance Features

Proper care and maintenance are crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of the ASUS VG236 Series LCD Monitor.

Cleaning:

  • Before cleaning, turn off the monitor and unplug the power cord.
  • Use a lint-free, non-abrasive cloth to clean the monitor surface.
  • For stubborn stains, dampen the cloth with a mild cleaner.
  • Avoid cleaners containing alcohol or acetone. Use a cleaner specifically intended for LCDs.
  • Never spray cleaner directly onto the screen, as liquid may drip inside the monitor and cause an electric shock.

General Safety and Handling:

  • Always disconnect cables and the power cord before lifting or repositioning the monitor.
  • When lifting or carrying, grasp the edges of the monitor; do not lift by the stand or the cord.
  • Never expose the monitor to rain or moisture to prevent fire or shock hazards.
  • Do not attempt to open the monitor cabinet, as dangerous high voltages inside can cause serious injury.
  • If the power supply is damaged, contact a qualified service technician or retailer; do not attempt repairs yourself.
  • Ensure all cables are correctly connected and undamaged before use.
  • Ventilation slots on the back or top of the cabinet should not be blocked. Avoid placing the product near radiators or heat sources without proper ventilation.
  • Operate the monitor only from the power source indicated on its label. Use the appropriate power plug for your local standard.
  • Avoid overloading power strips and extension cords to prevent fire or electric shock.
  • Protect the monitor from dust, humidity, and extreme temperatures. Do not place it in areas where it may get wet, and always place it on a stable surface.
  • Unplug the unit during lightning storms or prolonged periods of disuse to protect against power surges.
  • Never push objects or spill liquid into the monitor cabinet slots.
  • For satisfactory operation, use the monitor only with UL listed computers with appropriate configured receptacles marked between 100-240V AC.
  • If technical problems arise, contact a qualified service technician or retailer.

Normal Operating Symptoms:

  • Screen flicker during initial use is normal due to fluorescent light; turning the power switch off and on should resolve it.
  • Slightly uneven brightness may occur depending on the desktop pattern.
  • Afterimages may remain if the same image is displayed for hours; the screen will recover slowly, or turning off the power switch for several hours can help.
  • If the screen becomes black, flashes, or stops working, contact your dealer or service center; do not attempt self-repair.

By following these guidelines, users can ensure the safe and effective operation of their ASUS VG236 Series LCD Monitor, enjoying its advanced features and high-quality display for years to come.
