& WARNING
- Always take the vehicle key with you when
leaving the vehicle, even for a short period
of time. This applies particularly when chi l-
dren rema in in the vehicle . Otherwise chil-
dren could star t t he engi ne, release the
parking brake or operate elect rical equip-
ment such as power win dows, whi ch in-
creases the risk of an accident .
- No one should remain in t he vehicle when it
is locked, especially children. Locked doors
make it mo re diff icult fo r emergency work-
ers to get into the vehicle, which puts lives
at risk.
Starting from a stop
The start assist function ensures that the park -
ing brake is released automatically upon start-
ing.
Stopping and setting the parking brake
.,. Pull t he swit ch ~ to set t he parking brake.
Starting and automatically releasing the
parking brake
.,. When you press the accelerator pedal, the
parkin g brake is autom atically released and
your vehicle begins to move.
The parki ng brake can be set if you must stop the
vehicl e at a st op lig ht or in t raff ic. The vehicl e
does not have t o be held with the brake pedal.
The parkin g brake eli minates the tendency to
creep when a selector lever position is engaged .
The parking brake releases automatica lly and the
vehicle begins to move as soon as you press the
accelerator pedal as usual.
Starting on slopes
W hen starting on inclines, the hill start assist
prevents the vehicle from unintentionally rolli ng
back. The braking force of the park ing brake is
not released until sufficient driving force has
been built up at t he w heels.

For safety reasons, the par king brake is re-
leased automatically on ly when the driver's
safety belt is engaged in the buckle.
Starting to drive with a trailer
To prevent rolling back unintentionally on an in-
cline, do the following:
.,. Keep the switch pull ed ~ and press t he accel-
erator pedal. The parking brake stays applied
and prevents the vehicle from roll ing backward .
.,. You can release the switch ~ once you are sure
that you are transferring enough driving force
to the whee ls by pressing the accelerator pedal.
Depending on the weight of t he rig (vehicle and
trailer) and the severity of the incline, you may
roll backwards as you sta rt .
Emergency braking function
This is used if the conventional brake system
fails or locks up.
.,. To brake your vehicle in an emergency, pull the
~
switch and hold it pull ed .
.,. As soon as you release the ~ switch or acceler-
ate, the braking stops .
If you pull the switch
«v> and hold it above a
speed of about 5 mph (8 km/h), the emergency
braking function is init iated. The vehicle is braked
at all fou r whee ls by activati ng the hydraulic
brake system . The brake performance is similar
to making an emergency stop ~ .&..
In order not to activate the emergency braking by
mistake, an audible warn ing to ne (buzzer)
sounds when the ~ switch is pulled . As soon as
the ~ switch is released, or t he accelerator pedal
is depressed, emergency braking stops.
& WARNING
Emergency braking should only be used in an
emergency, when t he normal brake pedal has
failed or the brake pedal is obst ructed. Using
the park ing brake to perform emergency
braking w ill slow your vehicle down as if you
