- A worn or damaged nozzle or a nozzle that
is too sma ll may not be able to open the
diesel misfueling guard. If this is the case,
try turning the nozzle before insert ing it in
the fue l filler neck, use a different fuel
pump, or see an aut horized Audi dea ler or
aut horized Audi Service Facility for ass is-
tance.
- The misfueling guard does not open when
adding fue l from a fue l conta iner. You can
bypass it by addi ng the diesel fuel slowly.
Fuel filler door emergency release
If the central locking system is faulty, the fuel
filler door con be unlocked manually .

Selective catalytic
reduction (AdBlue/DEF)
General information
Applies to: vehicles with selective catalyt ic reduct ion
In vehicles with selective catalyt ic reduction, a
urea solution (AdBlue/DEF) is injected into the
exhaust system before a nitrogen oxide catalytic
converter to reduce nitrogen emissions . The urea
solution is known as Ad Blue or DEF (Diesel Ex-
haust Fluid). Ad Blue is used in the following.
The Ad Blue is carried in a separate tank in the ve-
hicle. The AdBlue usage accounts for app roxi-
mately 0.5% to 2.5% of the diesel fuel that is
used .
When a message about refilling the AdBlue ap-
pears in the instrument cluste r display, you must
refill t he Ad Blue yourse lf or have it refilled by an
autho rized Audi dea ler or autho rized Audi Service
Facility

- The instr ument cluster disp lay indicates t he
distanc e remaining that can be driven
c::> page 196. If the Ad Blue t ank is com-
pletely empty, the eng ine will not start
again afte r the ignit ion is switched off.
