On Board Diagnostic
System (OBD)
Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL)
The Malfunction Indicator Lamp (MIL) ¢• in the
inst rument cluste r is part of the On-Board Diag-
nostic (OBD
II) system .
The warning/i ndicator light illuminates when the
ignition is switche d on and goes out after the en-
gine starts and the idle has stab ilized. This indi-
cates that the MIL is working properly.
If the light does not go out after the eng ine is
started, or illuminates while you are driving, a
malfu nction may exist in t he engine system . If
t he light illuminates, the catalytic converter
could be damaged.
Continue driving
with reduced power (avoiding
sustai ned high speeds and/o r rapid accelera-
t ions) and have the condition corrected. Contact
your aut horized Audi deale r.
If the light illuminates, the elect ronic speed lim-
iter may also be ma lfunct ioning. For more infor-
mation
c::> page 26, Electronic speed limiter.
An improperly closed fuel filler cap may also
cause the MIL light to illuminate
