• Improper installation of child restraints can reduce their effec-
tiveness or even prevent them from providing any protection .
• An improperly installed child restraint can interfere with the
airbag as it deploys and seriously injure or even kill the child -
even with an Advanced Airbag System .
• Always carefully follow the manufa cturer's instruction s
provided with the child seat or carrier.
• Never place additional items on the seat that can increase the
total weight registered by the weight -sensing mat and can cause
injury in a crash. •

Your vehicle is equipped with an "Advanced Airbag System" in
complia nce with United States Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Sta n-
dard (FMVSS) 208 as applicable at t he time your vehicle was manu -
factured. The safe ty belt s for t he fr ont seat s have "pretensione rs"
t hat help to ta ke slack out of t he belt system . The pretensio ners are
also activated by the electronic control unit for the airbag system .
The fron t safety belts also have loa d limiters to hel p red uce t he
forces applied to the body in a crash.
The airbag for the d river is in the stee ring wheel hub ~ fig. 230 and
th e airbag for the front passenger is in the instr ument panel
