Emerg ency off
If necessary, the engine can be swit ched off
with the selector lever in the R, Dor S posi-
tions . The engine stops if you press the
I START ENGINE STOP ! button at speeds below
6 mph (10 km/h).
A WARNING
- Never turn off the engine before the ve-
hicle has come to a complete stop . The
full function of the brake booster and the
power steering is not quaranteed. You
must use more force to turn or brake if
necessary. Because you cannot steer and
brake as you usual ly would, this could
lead to crashes and serious injur ies.
- For safety reasons, you should always
park your vehicle with the selector lever
in P. Otherwise, the vehicle could inad-
vertent ly roll away.
- After the engine has been switched off,
the radiator fan can continue to run for
up to 10 min utes - even with the ignit ion
switched off. It can also switch on again
after some time if the coolant tempera-
ture rises as the result of a heat buildup
or if the engine is hot and the engine
compartment is addit ionally heated by
the sun's rays.
(D Note
Do not stop the engine immed iate ly afte r
hard or extended dr iving. Keep the engine
running for approx imately two minutes to
prevent excessive heat build-up.

Turn off ignition before leaving car
This message appears and a war ning tone
sounds if you open the driver's door when the
ignitio n is switched on.
Press brake pedal to start engine
This message appears if you press the
I STAR T ENGINE STOP ! button to start the en-
gine and do not depress the brake pedal. The
engine can only be started if the brake pedal
is depressed.
Ill I s key in th e vehicle?
If the indicato r light turns on and the mes-
sage appears, the remote control key was re-
moved from t he vehicle whi le the engine was
runn ing .
If t he igni t ion key is not in the vehi-
cle you will not be able to switch on the igni-
tion or restart the engine after it has been
switched off. You will also not be able to lock
the vehicle from the outs ide.
Shift to P, othe rwi se vehicle can roll away.
Doors do not lock if lever is not in P.
This dr iver message appears for safety rea-
sons if t he transmission has not been shifted
to the P position when you switch the ignition
off. Move the selector lever to the P position.
Otherwise the vehicle is not protected from
roll ing and cannot be locked.
II Key is not recognized . Hold back of key
again st m arked area. See owner's manual.
If t he indicator light turns on and this mes-
sage appears, there is a malfunct ion

Turn off ignition before leaving car. Batt ery
is discharging
This message appears if the driver's door is
opened wh ile the ignition is switched on. Al-
ways switch off the ignit ion if you are leaving
the vehicle. See also

Shift to P and turn off ignition before leav-
ing car, otherwi se vehicle can roll away
This message appears if the driver's door is
opened wh ile the ignition is switched on and
the selecto r lever is not in the P position. Shift
the selector lever into the P position and
switch off the ignit ion when you exit the vehi-
cle. Otherw ise the vehicle could rol l. See also
